This is my favorite cheesesteak in NYC. The meat is a generous portion and melts in your mouth. The meat, cheese, and onions are mixed well so that every bite is exactly the same combinations of flavors. You get creamy cheese, tender meat, soft onions that still have a little bite. The bread is crunchy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside, even if you reheat it at home. Uniquely, their bread is also topped with sesame seeds that give the bread a deep, rich, slightly nutty taste. They will offer you spicy or sweet peppers. Either option, cuts the creaminess well and really lifts and lightens the flavors.

It is a first-floor store-front, handicap accessible. There are two walls lined with family style high-top bar tables to stand and eat, if you’re lucky enough to be there when one is open. Walk-in, place your order, one option – Philly Cheesesteak with onions and cheese, no substitutions or special requests. They will text you when your sandwich is ready (I have waited 7 to 20 minutes, depending on the time of day). I usually eat half in the park across the street and then reheat the other half, wrapped in foil, at home. It is just as good reheated.

Danny & Coop’s truly makes the best cheesesteak I’ve ever had, and I don’t say that lightly. From the moment you open the bag, the smell alone tells you you’re about to have something special. I ordered my cheesesteak to go, and even after the walk home it was absolute perfection. My friends and I practically devoured it the second we unwrapped it. The cheese is melted exactly the way you want it—creamy, gooey, and evenly distributed so every bite is rich and satisfying. The steak itself is cooked beautifully: tender, flavorful, and seasoned just right so it stands out without overpowering anything. The bread holds everything together while still being soft and warm, which makes the whole experience even better.

What really impressed me is how balanced the cheesesteak is. It’s indulgent, comforting, and super filling, but never overly heavy. You can tell they care about quality and consistency in a way that sets them apart from other spots. It’s honestly the kind of food that makes you stop mid-bite and go, “Wow.” If you’re a cheesesteak lover—or even if you think you’re not—you need to try Danny & Coop’s. It’s an instant favorite and absolutely worth the hype.

Yes worth the hype!
Located in the East Village, this tiny hole in the wall serves the most amazing cheesesteak rolls.
They sell one item and do it extremely well.

The sesame seeded roll I was surprisingly soft, which prefer, and the combination of onions, cheese sauce and steak, was rich and flavoursome. I’m not a big fan of onions, however this blended in perfectly. You are asked if you would like peppers on the side sweet or hot. I choose sweet and it just cut through the richness of the steak. The side was tiny, would have liked a little more.

The store has minimal bench space and there is nowhere to sit.

I arrived at opening so the line wasn’t crazy, waited 10mins to order received my order in 5 mins. Lucky enough to find a space to eat.
I ate half in store and finished the rest in Hompkins Sq Park.

Highly recommend.

Second time having danny & coop’s! This cheesesteak hit all the right notes for me both times!

You can tell how fresh the bread is with every bite – soft but somehow sturdy enough to hold all the cheesy steak goodness! Sesame seeds don’t usually do anything for me but worked perfectly for this sandwich.

They also do not skimp on the steak and cheese and it was the perfect size for sharing!

It’s good as is but the peppers also add a nice bit of acidity.

It’s a pretty efficient ordering process but it can get busy. Only room for a few people to stand and eat inside by the counter. Be prepared to find a spot nearby to wait for your order (we waited about 5 min when it wasn’t busy and about 20 min when there were at least 15 people waiting for their orders ahead of us).

After seeing the cheesesteak all over social media, I had to try it! Ordering was a breeze. There were only about three to four people in line, and it moved fairly quickly. After placing my order, I gave my cell number and was told I would be notified when the sandwich was ready. Within ten minutes, I got the call that my food was done.

Overall, the cheesesteak was good, but it did not quite live up to the hype. The sandwich alone cost $23.41 and did not include fries or chips, so I ended up walking a few doors down to grab fries from another restaurant. That said, the bread was a standout. It was well made and incredibly soft with a noticeable sesame aroma and flavor. The meat was nicely cut and tender, but it could have benefited from more seasoning and a heavier hand with the cheese whiz to truly mimic a Philly cheesesteak.

I also appreciated the packaging, which kept the sandwich intact and aesthetically appealing when I opened it. The cheesesteak came with a side of peppers that were not spicy. They had a flavor similar to bread and butter pickles, and that sweetness paired perfectly with the sandwich.

In the end, it was a solid cheesesteak, but given all the social media buzz, I was expecting something a bit more flavorful and memorable.

I took my best friend from Guangzhou China here and he was floored. He said they have nothing like this in China and rated the sandwich a 9.3. He also said that while Bradley Cooper wasn’t at the shop, there’s a lot of sexiness to be seen inside with this sandwich.

With respect to myself, I acknowledge that this cheesesteak is easily in the top tier of sandwiches. Admittedly, I have not tried the latest onslaught of pizzerias making cheesesteak sandwiches on their homemade bread (See Mama’s TOO and L’Industrie). Here the meat is extremely tender, the cheese is well melted throughout and the bread is excellent (crunchy and seeded, yet plush – leading to a superb mouthfeel. The onions could be a touch softer. Peppers not needed. 9.1 – must go.

Probably the best cheesesteak in the city! The people working there are super friendly and welcoming. The sandwich itself is absolutely spectacular — you can add pickles and choose between hot or sweet, and trust me, it’s totally worth trying that combo. The portion size is generous, so you definitely get your money’s worth.

I had to wait around 25 minutes, but it was absolutely worth it. The place has a nice, cozy vibe, and there’s a beautiful park right in front where you can even sit outside to enjoy your cheesesteak and all the activities happening there. Honestly, I’d go back a thousand times!

Great little spot downtown serving up great steak and cheese sandwiches. The bread was super soft. The meat was nice, tender and flavorful. The staff were very nice and welcoming. They give you a side of peppers with your sandwich either sweet or spicy. I prefer spice and they did not disappoint on that. No seats only standing space at counter to eat. Just a grab and go kind of thing.

Impressive. Rating here 5 stars. The atmosphere was decent. Nothing extravagant – small space. But had to try Bradley Cooper’s popular Cheesesteak. Stopped by midday during the week and quickly ordered. Got the Cheesesteak with sweet and hot peppers. I ate the sandwich about 2 hours later due to my drive back to NJ. I can tell you that it was still warm and the bread held up perfectly. No soggyiness whatsoever. First of all the sesame bread.. um YES! The bread is delicious. At first bite, great cheese choice. The steak is smothered in cheese with small bites of onions. I absolutely loved this sandwich. It was well executed and packaged. The sweet peppers were my fave. A nice sweet and sour flavor. The hot peppers were extremely hot, so beware. Overall, a great first experience.

Management, I like what you did here. Thumbs up

UPDATE: Stopped by a second time, a little over a month later and prices have already gone up! The restaurant opened in January 2025, I think it’s a bit soon. Still a good sandwich, but the price hike was surprisingly disappointing.

Solid 4 stars for this philly cheesesteak spot.
Pros:
– The bread is excellent and ideal choice for the cheesesteak. I could tell that its similar to Angelo’s which for me has the best cheesesteak in the world.
– The order did not take longer than 15 min. The non substitution/customization makes this doable.
– Sweet peppers adds a unique flavor to the sandwich. Add ketchup as well and you’ll get the best flavor.

Cons:
– the service for me was a bit off. The guy handing the sandwiches should have been a bit more welcoming.
– This is a primarily take out resturants as they dont have dining tables. Not a big deal tho.
– the cheesesteak was a bit salty for me. But I felt it was balanced when I added the sweet peppers to the sandwich.

Overall, I could see myself going back again if Im around.
