I was really disappointed with my experience here. The service was frustrating,I had to ask for drink refills three separate times before anyone followed through. The restaurant itself feels extremely outdated; it looks like it hasn’t been upgraded since the 1970s. There’s also a strong musty, old-basement smell that makes the whole environment uncomfortable.
The food was bland and definitely didn’t match the prices they’re charging. For the quality, atmosphere, and service, it’s simply overpriced. I also noticed that most of the patrons seemed to be in their 70s, which adds to the overall “stuck in time” feeling the place gives off.
$61 for one cheese burger, one order of wings and a BLT before tip . Unfortunately, I won’t be visiting again and can’t recommend it based on my experience.
PS – Sandra our waitress was so friendly, warm and helpful!!!! She’s a keeper!! ❤️
The food is always fresh and delicious, from their homemade soups to their famous mashed turnips, which I recently tried and loved. And you can’t leave without having one of their pies — the banana cream, chocolate cream, and lemon meringue are all incredible.
I love the old-time atmosphere and the friendly, familiar staff, many of whom have been there for years. If you’re anywhere near the North Fork, I highly recommend stopping in. It’s a true Long Island classic.
My Roast Turkey Dinner came with white & dark meat, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and gravy were included. I also got to choose from several sides offered. I picked mashed potatoes. I added a side of mashed turnips.
My companion ordered the Ruben Sandwich with Onion Rings and the side of Turnips as well. We enjoyed everything.
The food was served diner quick, hot, tasted, and felt homemade. Service was efficient and fast but lacked warmth.
The dining rooms truly feel like you’re eating in someone’s house. Roomy, cozy and a bit nostalgic.
Many menu items are available to go in larger portions, so I ordered a quart of my beloved Mashed Turnips. I can’t wait for dinner tonight.
Their service was good.
We stopped in on our way further out east to grab some lunch and arrived just as they were opening their doors for business today. Temperature was checked and we were then whisked away to our lovely partitioned table.
Staff all wore gloves and masks and each table was cleaned thoroughly. Ordered their fried clan strips to start, delicious morsels of clam fried to a golden deliciousness. Their turkey dinner platter comes with a veg choice, potato choice, and both dark and white meat with the best stuffing I’ve had that is not home made by me. Their stuffed flounder was flaky and buttery and the kids really enjoyed their fried flounder platter from their kids menu too. You must order the lemon meringue pie, like it’s a must! Strawberry rhubarb was a close second but the coconut custard pie was just ok.
We will most definitely be back very very soon. HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY, OTTO!!!
