Mexican food really has no business being THIS good… If I lived nearby, my bank account would be in jeopardy.
I travel for work, and this is probably one of the, if not THE best Mexican food you’ll find anywhere in this state. We used to eat here when I was little, nearly 15 years ago. I was pleasantly surprised to see they are still around, and even better? The food!!
Every time we eat here, it is piping hot, never overcooked, everything is absolutely delicious. The service is stellar, the gentleman working the counter the times I have been has been extremely nice and courteous and I’ve never waited more than 10 minutes at most.
For two people, you will leave with almost more than you can carry, and every single item is excellent. 10/10.

Coming here for the first time my experience was a little mixed. The inside is overly packed with tables and booths leaving for very cramped eating quarters. We were seated in the room off to the left inside the front door and the floor definitely had some issues. Every time someone walked across the room the floor squeaked and bounced. Which is less than exciting when trying to eat dinner. On the other side the food menu is vast offering several choices for dinner. We had the small cheese sauce and chips for an appetizer. The dip flavor was good although a little on the runny side. It had great flavor though. For dinner I had the Quesa Birria basically a beef Birria quesadilla with beef dipping sauce with a side of rice. The quesadilla was very good until I got the long piece of hair inside the quesadilla. Hopefully this is not a normal occurrence.

This was our first time at this location of Mexico Viejo. We first noticed the atmosphere and ambience-elegantly studded high back booths, very clean bathrooms, soft music, and fast service. Our food was EXCELLENT, our server was super accommodating, and their prices are comparable to most other mexican restaurants. Overall great experience .

Mexico Viejo is the best little restaurant! There is plenty of parking with easy access and a drive-thru for carryouts. The feel here is warm and friendly, with prompt service. Our meal was well-prepared and served hot, plus the menu had plenty to choose from! The entire staff treated us like old friends. Mexico Viejo has a family atmosphere. The prices were in line with a well-prepared meal. Try Mexico Viejo for yourself; you will not be disappointed!

Service is 85% percent good, service is good most of the time. Alcohol is also pretty good but a little on the expensive side so look for the daily deals. The daily deals seem great.

Love the food and the staff is usually very friendly. Biggest issue is that they never answer the phone to take to-go orders. Are the phones constantly down, or just ignored?

We just bought a home in Hiddenite and tried this place today. Awesome!! So glad to have great Mexican nearby! They have great grilled chicken and the queso is not “watered” down. Can’t wait to come back! Frosty beer mug too.
