And the bread? Soft on the inside with that perfect crispy crust. Add a little butter and it was game over.
The vibe was cozy and relaxed with the candle on the table giving it that low key date night feel. Service was friendly and attentive without hovering.
Service was friendly, attentive, and genuine, which always makes the experience even better. No rushing, no attitude—just good energy all around. Loved it.
But the showstopper? The brownie flambé dessert — brought to our table literally on fire! It was dramatic, delicious, and totally worth saving room for. Watching the flames dance right before the first bite was such a fun and memorable moment, and the warm chocolatey goodness that followed was absolutely heavenly.
Service was attentive and friendly, and the cozy, candle-lit atmosphere made the whole evening feel special. Whether you’re coming for pasta, drinks, or that unforgettable dessert, Flour and Barrel is a must-try gem in downtown Raleigh. Can’t wait to go back!
The food itself is pretty bland, but properly cooked. The bartender makes killer cocktails.
I recently attended a Yelp event at Flour & Barrel, and it was such a treat to experience their take on handmade pasta and craft pairings. If you’re a fan of cozy vibes and carb-loading in style, this spot should definitely be on your radar.
The Experience & Staff
From the moment I walked in, the staff was incredibly welcoming and attentive. They managed the event flow perfectly, making sure everyone felt taken care of and well-fed. Their hospitality really added to the warm, inviting atmosphere of the restaurant.
The Pasta & Pairings
We sampled three different pairings, and it was a fun journey for the palate:
* Round 1: The first pasta and pairing were absolutely tasty. The flavors were well-balanced and set a high bar for the rest of the night.
* Round 2: The second pasta and beer pairing was good, but not quite my favorite. While the quality was clearly there, the flavor profile just didn’t “pop” as much for me personally as the others did.
* Round 3 (The Winner!): They saved the best for last! The final pasta and beer pairing was hands-down my favorite of the night. The pairing was spot-on and the pasta was cooked to perfection.
A Note on Parking
Just a heads-up for anyone heading to this downtown location: street parking can be very challenging. Between the limited spots and the busy area, save yourself the headache and pay for a parking garage or lot. It’s worth the few extra dollars for the peace of mind regarding your vehicle’s safety while you enjoy your meal.
Overall, it was a fantastic event. I’ll definitely be back to see what else Flour & Barrel has cooking!
On the bartender’s recommendation, I tried the Doctor Orders cocktail (Thai tea, Licor 43, bourbon, Averna, vanilla float). I wasn’t sure what to expect, but it ended up being delicious and well-balanced.
To start, I ordered the Oven-Roasted Potatoes with Yukon gold potatoes, piquillo peppers, cipollini onions, and horseradish cream. Although I prefer crispier potatoes, the flavors paired well and made for an enjoyable starter.
I had planned to order the filet mignon, but they were out for the day. I went with the Chicken Parmesan instead, and it was excellent. The chicken was perfectly cooked, and the marinara sauce was rich and flavorful—a great take on a classic.
The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and offered great recommendations. Overall, Flour & Barrel is a wonderful spot for a relaxed evening out. I’d definitely visit again—hopefully when the filet is available!
