Expensive. Menu is not clear. Ordered pulled pork and it just was not seasoned all that much. Jalepeno corn was fantastic. Son ordered half rack of ribs. They were good, but again nothing to wrote home about. Baked beans were also really good. For the price I would expect more.

We ate there for the first time tonight. Service was good and nice. Paid $23 for a half rack of ribs and they were burnt, dry and well look at the pic. My girlfriend liked the brisket which looked much better than what I was served. Based on the ribs, I probably wouldn’t rush to go back and I can’t recommend it based on this food experience. Disappointing for a $50 meal as we chose this over Smokey d’s tonight. Wish it was better for sure

Great BBQ in the District. Had ribs, Andouille sausage and brisket. All extremely good but the brisket is amazing! Incredibly tender and wonderful smoked flavor. No sauce needed. We will definitely be regulars.

Best ribs I’ve had in Iowa. Ordered a full slab plus onion rings and it fed two of us with leftovers. Ribs were Smokey and fell off the bones. Very casual cafe style seating and atmosphere.

With 10 years personally working in the food industry -> I can say that Al keeps a VERY tidy shop, the food is always hot & Big Al is almost always in there personally checking on his patrons.

Very limited menu. Food was very subpar. My kids wouldn’t even eat the Mac n cheese. Person at register was not nice. Advertised easy eddy beer in window but only had coors/bud light. First and last time here. This place does not belong in the district, waste of prime location.

Fantastic food as always and a fraction of the distance! The smell and service is wonderful. It’s a little smaller atmosphere than I’m accustomed to, but the smell permeating inside and out is more than enough to draw in customers. Wonderful service and kitchen staff

My family stopped in for the first time for a quick lunch today. We liked the atmosphere and were greeted with friendly service. We ordered burnt ends and brisket with several sides. Both meats were very good, along with all the BBQ sauce options. However, the sides could use some help. No complaints on the baked beans but with this being a BBQ joint I would expect WAY better Mac and cheese. It tasted so fake and gross, even my son wouldn’t eat it. And the onion rings were very bland and the jalapeño creamed corn was way too creamy I couldn’t even taste corn.
Overall it was a good family lunch, but they could focus more on side dishes to improve the overall meal. I do think we will come back and give them another shot as I love a good laid back family environment for meals.

Very Disappointing. Spent $20 for 3 slices of Brisket, small portion of worst than kraft macaroni and white peice of bread.

My husband, our son and myself decided we’d check out the newest location of my husband’s favorite BBQ joint. We’ve been to the location near the airport and I think the original location on East University. It had been years since we visited either location though. Last weekend we decided to try the new location in Ankeny b/c it’s so much closer to where we live. The staff were fantastic. Very friendly and very knowledgeable. The atmosphere was a bit too trendy for our taste but it’s in a trendy part of Ankeny so it is what it is. The food was good but no where near good enough for the price. It cost my family of three over $75 for walk up counter LUNCH! I’m honestly not sure if we’ll be going back there anytime soon. Which sucks b/c we enjoyed every over time before this one. :/
