My boyfriend and I stopped into Samurai Grill for a quick bite around 2:00 PM on a Sunday, and we were not disappointed! We were seated quickly at the bar and decided to try four different rolls — every single one was absolutely amazing. Honestly, it’s the best sushi I’ve had in New Mexico so far.

The highlight for me was that they serve authentic wasabi made fresh in-house from the root. You can truly taste the difference. The staff was knowledgeable and attentive, and the gentleman preparing the sushi rolls clearly has a passion for his craft. You could see how proud he was of the work he does, which made the experience even better.

The atmosphere is inviting and relaxed — perfect for a casual date or a nice meal out. They’re open less than 40 hours a week, and I’ve heard Friday and Saturday nights are their busiest, so plan accordingly.

I highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for great sushi and a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back!

Sushi I ordered:
– Love Triangle roll: Inside is imitation crab mix and avocado, outside was masago, tuna, and salmon (or you can sub for any other fish – I got yellowtail because they ran out salmon).
– Sunrise roll: inside had avocado, and Crystal shrimp, which is breaded, but I subbed that out for immitation crab mix, which has a little bit of gluten in it too but not so much. On top was a super thin lemon slice, and a tangy white creamy sauce called Lobster sauce.
– Note: their miso soup is gluten-free. Lobster sauce is a mayo-based tangy zesty sauce that’s also gluten-free. Eel sauce has a little bit of gluen. They have gluten-free soy sauce.
– Their green tea is really good! Its brewed traditional matcha green tea leaves. They also have jasmine tea – also very good.
– All of their fish is super fresh! They have it overnighted from the fishers!
– Their masago is really fresh, it does *not* taste fishy. It was very good! (We had just been to “Yoshi Mame” for sushi a few days prior, and their masago was very fishy tasting and gross.)
– Even the ginger here is better than other places. Here at Samurai, it was real ginger, tan colored. (Not the fake pink stuff that tastes like it’s been falsely sweetened – like they have at “Yoshi Mame”).
– Overall, they have a lot of creative sushi rolls on the menu and I was able to find some new, fun rolls to try that were not spicy or deep fried! 🙂
– This is now my favorite sushi spot out of all of the 16 sushi places i have tried so far in ABQ!
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! ✨️

This is my absolute favorite restaurant of all time I’ve gone there so much to the point that the owner recognizes me lol. She’s really sweet and when I’m there we usually talk for a few minutes. I go there at really any chance I can. I think my favorite sushi roll is Sex on the Beach, but if you ask them to add cream cheese IT’S SO MUCH BETTERRRR

I also really like the udon but I don’t typically order it because I get full really quick haha. AND the 420 roll is super cool, it’s my dad’s favorite and if you wanna try something unique I say get that

I normally go to the regular dining area but once I tried the Hibachi area and the cook we had was amazing and made a wonderful unforgettable experience.

If you decide to go here you definitely won’t regret it!!

Our go-to spot when we come into the city! The best sushi we’ve had in ABQ – the 420 roll is and the magic shrimp for an appetizer with some spicy edamame! Rachel is usually our server and she is amazing! Haven’t had anything bad here. Get over here losers, you’re missing out!

Probably the best sushi I’ve had in Albuquerque. Generous with the fish. Don’t use too much rice on the nigiri. The rice is perfectly chewy. Really good sushi rice. This is my go to spot in town now.

Grill for 1 person, seated right away. The restaurant wasn’t busy nor loud. My waitress was very attentive and friendly! The chef was decent. Food was flying everywhere and ended up on the table more than people’s plates. I asked for yum-yum sauce and got spicy mayo instead, they’re NOT the same. No ginger sauce even offered to the table. Scallops could’ve been cooked longer. Shrimp was overcooked.

Overall, this restaurant didn’t WOW me. It did the job and was accurately priced. I doubt I’ll be coming back solely based on them not having yum-yum sauce.

Samurai Sushi is an absolute gem! The quality of the fish is simply outstanding – exceptionally fresh, perfectly cut and bursting with flavor… Every serving was crafted with care and expertise! Beyond the incredible food the service was just as impressive. The staff goes above and beyond to provide an amazing dining experience. Hands down one of the best Sushi experiences I’ve ever had! Ten out of ten!

Soooooo gooood!!!! Our fave Sushi place but there’s so many other options too. Haven’t gotten one bad thing! And they are the only place to get Yuzu Shuwah Highball! The food was so good. I ate it too fast to take pictures… Next time!
