Disappointing
We love the other El Comal locations. We recently moved close to this one and we were excited to go tonight.
Our waitress was very non-attentive. Refill of chips took 10 minutes, she never asked if we wanted second margaritas, never asked how the food was and after 10 minutes of waiting for boxes she came and asked if we were ok. The food was not as good as the other locations, the service was terrible.
We do not plan to come back to this location.
If you can’t give good service on a Monday night with 3 tables taken, how do I have any confidence in a busy meal time.
Very disappointing for us as we love the group overall.

Stopped in to check them out as im not from the area. I arrived around 1pm (lunchtime) and ordered queso and a taco salad. Chips, salsa and queso were amazing so i was hopeful that the salad would be the same. I was very disappointed when i started to mix it up, it was cold, watery, barely any flavor and i could see grease from the meat after braking up the bowl and mixing it further. The ONLY reason for 3 stars is because of the chips, salsa, queso and service. Ive had a taco salad from an authentic mexican restaurant before and the one from here was by far the worst.

Found ourselves in an area we had never been before and a local recommended we go to El Comal in McCalla. We enjoyed a pitcher of delicious margaritas, good chips and salsa. David had a mushroom quesadillas which was loaded with cheese and mushrooms. I had a rellenos quesadilla meal. Food was freshly prepared, hot and tasted great. Server was reserved but took good care of us. I love sweets/ desserts and was disappointed they were sold out of the bun cakes. We had the flan instead ( would NOT recommend). Our bill was $43 before tip. Upon paying we found out that there are several El Comal restaurants with one being in Pelham in the old Ninos building. Definitely going to give that one a try. Hopefully they’ll have bun cake.

Amazing food. Always tasty always fresh. The price is reasonable. I like the environment and the vibes. The place is always crowded but the service is very fast. You won’t wait for so long. Parking is free. Menu is huuuuge. At least 40 items. Food is amazing. Staff is super fast and friendly.

If you never heard of nor tried El Comal here in McCalla do yourself a favor and stop what you’re doing and eat here!!
This food is FIRE GOOD!!!
Salsa has depth of flavor, nice heat, more than the average Mexican restaurant.
Street tacos were amazing > lots of white onions and cilantro both of which I love and agree, the more the merrier in these doubled up soft shell corn tortillas. Yummy!!
Added a side of beans, bc what’s Mexican food without beans?> all was amazingly flavored. My favorite was the authentic Mexican music, not the typical music one might expect to hear here, but much more romantic and beautiful, a great place to eat, especially after I’ve just driven 10hrs. today from Virginia back to Alabama. The Mayan calendar behind the register is sure to see me again!!

Nice surprise find while traveling through rural Alabama at lunchtime!
The other Mexican restaurants listed on GPS were in crowded shopping centers (not for me on Black Friday).
Typical menu, friendly staff.

My husband is furious with me now because last week I went and got us Enchiladas Supreme Dinner and A shrimp Chimichanga Dinner. It was AWFUL!!!!!!!!! NO SAUCE OR CHEESE ON ANY OF OUR FOOD. A tablespoon of refried beans and on and on. It was a takeout order and not worth a dime!! A year ago it was amazing. My shrimp was so tough it was like rubber. What jay????? I will NEVER BE BACK!!!! BUYER BEWARE

A small Mom and Pop place off the beaten path that is well worth the visit. Seems to be frequented by plenty of Mexicans (at least when I was there).
I got the Burrito Grande (Chicken) with Cheese sauce on top and filled with Beans and Rice. Chips and Salsa were good for the starters.
Service was top notch. Friendly, attentive and fast.
Overall, cant complain. Good Mexican food, served fast and with a smile.
