Stopped by Big Dipper while in Helena and tried the huckleberry ice cream since I wanted to sample Montana’s famous flavor. It was pretty good, sweet, creamy, and definitely unique if you’re not used to huckleberry. The shop has a nice local feel, and it’s a fun place to check out if you’re visiting the area or want to try something distinctly Montanan.

Friendly workers, nice store but some of the worst ice cream I’ve ever had. My husband and I both agreed the ice cream had a strong artificial/chemical like taste. Will not return.

Best Big Dipper location!!
Pros: thru authentic creative ice cream flavors, space to sit inside right on the Gulch walking mall. Couldn’t be cuter
Cons: Always premium product at a premium price

Flavorful and sturdy. ✨
I went here with my aunt and her two girls (3 and 5). They let my try multiple different flavors, and I ended up getting a half scoop of each in a single cup which ended up just being a scoop of each. I got Mango Sorbet (which is a special right now) and Coconut and it’s really good . My cousins’ got a kids cone of chocolote and one of cotton candy with rainbow sprinkles . At first I was scared they would fall off the cones but they are very balanced.
I would definitely come here again and they had seating upstairs.

There’s a reason they call it Big Dipper and it’s not just for the long line; the flavors are big! If you show up and there’s a line just wait. There are plenty of good flavors to order. Order and come back if you want to try them all. A must stop if you like ice cream!

Grabbed a pint to take back to our motel while visiting as we always make sure to check out the local ice cream scene. Super delicious and creamy. Many flavors to choose from, but took off a star for lack of chocolate-based options as they only had plain chocolate and I’m a chocolatey girl. We got the salted caramel which was fantastic . Pre-packed pints were $5.50 making it a good value compared to a cone. Fresh-packed pints were a few bucks more. Definitely recommend!

On our bikepacking trip, we’d become ice cream addicts! Vitamin I we called it! Big Dipper was our hit stop in Butte!
We had many before Butte on this trip and we had many after. The ice creams we had were delicious, but BDIC definitely wins for best waffle cone!
Thanks for the ‘fix’

Incredible ice cream!
Really not that much to say on this one. Great ice cream with a ton of fun flavors. Friendly employees. Fair prices. Clean, neat storefront. Try the cardamom, it is shockingly good. I went 3 times in as many days. I tried a cardamom shake with chai substituted for milk and it was also great. Must try if you are in Helena!

Big dipper ice cream is a staple of any Montana town this one is no different I got a waffle cone with three different flavors. Mexican chocolate, vanilla and Reeses and salted caramel. If I only had to choose one I would’ve gone with the salted caramel again-the vanilla Reeses didn’t have enough Reeses in the vanilla ice cream and the Mexican chocolate taste exactly like abuelita‘s hot chocolate back home however the salted caramel took today’s scoop-rich, creamy and extremely tasty….the waffle cone itself could use a tweak in the recipe but is still pretty good. Overall 8.2/10
