AKIRO is hands down one of the best sushi places I’ve been to. The quality of the fish was outstanding—fresh, perfectly cut, and full of flavor. Every roll was beautifully prepared and tasted incredible.
A special shout-out to sushi chef Benjamin—he was just amazing. You can truly feel his passion and skill in every piece he prepares. His attention to detail and creativity made the whole experience unforgettable.

This is probably one of the best sushi places in Chicago hands down. Explosive flavors – such unique combinations – I was floored!
Service is amazing! Michael at the sushi bar is extremely knowledgeable and such a pleasure to chat with.
(Must get: unagi nigiri w dark chocolate but towards the end – it’s like desert!)

This Japanese and Peruvian Fusion Restaurant is a great addition to River North. The fish was incredibly fresh and there is a creative twist on almost everything on their menu. My favorites were the tuna tiradito, salmon truffle nigiri, tuna nigiri and the unagi nigiri.
If you like hand rolls, I think the Acevichado, salmon and tuna were all wonderful.

Service was great. Food was hit or miss. Some items were too salty or the flavor profiles just didn’t hit. The seating was so tight that you can barely eat without elbowing your seat neighbor. And for the love of sushi, please add hot beverages and coat check for the winter months.

COME TO AKIRO HANDROLL BAR. I’ve lived in Chicago for 54 years and this might be my new favorite restaurant EVER. It was seriously so incredible. Chef Michael and our server Carolina were beyond helpful and fun. They guided us to the perfect order and we are so grateful. The atmosphere was so great. Seriously dreaming about all the amazing pieces we ate. Will be coming back as soon as possible!

This restaurant group is on fire. I’ve been to not only their other Chicago spots but also NY offerings and I can’t say enough how great every experience was but this was special. Chef Michael and staff did a fantastic job. Every piece I ordered was perfect and I will be coming back with friends very soon. Michael is conversational, explains each piece and does an excellent job of making what could be an intimidating experience fantastic. There are other chefs that work here as well, all extremely talented and I absolutely recommend this place for everything from birthdays to first and 22 dates. Prices are more than fair and you’re getting an excellent experience paired with impeccable food and atmosphere.

Chicago’s newest hand roll bar and it’s absolutely phenomenal. Omar did an excellent job at the sushi counter. My favorite rolls were the salmon and scallop—thought they beat out Noriko’s equivalent rolls there. I liked the duck confit roll a bit less, but it was still executed perfectly. Portions are huge, and fish quality is top notch. They don’t pulverize the meat like some other hand roll places do.
Would definitely recommend, and will be back.
