Great visit with customer service oriented staff. Food was well prepared and fresh. We were welcomed when we arrived and our order was taken immediately. Restaurant was clean, salsa bar and soda fountain was very clean. Tables a little sticky but it is because they are older.

As a thriller and romance author, I’m always on the lookout for good healthy options for meals. While driving through East Chula Vista near Bonita in Rancho Del Rey, I needed to fuel up. I was out running errands, collecting information for my thriller books, and I was starving. I spotted Rubio’s on Google Maps and decided to pop in.
Parking is totally reasonable. The front area has takeaway-only spots, so you can’t park right up front, but this is Southern California. The weather’s perfect, so no worries about walking through snow or rain.
The staff inside was courteous and efficient, as expected. My meal came out while I was still grabbing drinks and salsa. That made me super happy. By the time I sat down, I could dive right in.
This location also has a barstool area where you can sit, stare outside, and enjoy the palm trees and green umbrellas. You can eat outside too, which is a total bonus.
The food was up to Rubio’s standard, fresh and good. I saw staff come by several times while I was eating to keep the salsa bar clean. I’ve got to bet that’s an all-day task.
The restroom was clean and well kept. For lunch, the place was moderately busy but nothing too crazy.

The food here is dangerously good — like “I said I’d start my diet on Monday… but not THIS Monday” good. The salsa bar? Perfect. The tacos? Elite. The fish tacos? I’d fight someone for the last one. The lobster burrito should honestly have its own fan club. And don’t even get me started on the sweet potato taco… that thing has me coming back every week like clockwork. We’ve been coming for the past three months and at this point, I think they should just give us our own table. 10/10, highly addictive.

The outside environment is very clean. The inside of the restaurant is immaculately clean with an inviting audience. The cashier agreed made with a smile and say welcome to B. She rang my order up accurately and it was ready promptly. The food was delicious.

I really liked the Jalapeño tartar sauce for the Fish ‘n Chips. What a nice change from regular! I thought the fish fillets were a little small so I’m glad I added the 3rd fillet to the order.

Came here for the Taco Tuesday special, got a 2 taco combo for $7 but when I got my food there’s was no chips or beans as the picture clearly shows. The two workers I spoke with were very rude and dismissive, and so I called 2 different Rubios IN FRONT OF THEM and both Rubios said of course the combo comes with chips and beans! Yet they STILL refused to honor the deal! So how many people before also didn’t receive the complete order? It’s stealing at this point I wish there was someone I could call but their corporate office is permanently closed as Rubios is going out of business and today they showed why! Unacceptable! The pic below shows the combo, yet they said “pics do not matter it’s the wrong pic”!!!!!!!

Picked up a Grubhub order from this Rubio’s location (1016 Tierra Del Rey Ste A) and it was a really bad experience. Our order was a 10-Taco Box with Salsa Verde Shrimp Tacos (plus Chipotle Lime Crema). After eating, my wife, my aunt, and my 3-year-old son all ended up with food poisoning symptoms.
I’m not someone who leaves reviews lightly, but when multiple people in the same meal get sick—especially a young child—it’s serious. I’m posting this so management is aware and can look into food handling/temperature control and ingredient quality.

The cashier was friendly and helpful. I ordered the classic shrimp burrito plate that comes with beans, chips, and a drink. Food tastes delicious, although burrito could use a few more shrimps. Great variety of drinks and restroom is very clean. Prices are a little above average, be prepared to spend over $10- $11 each for lunch.
