Pleasantly surprised by the quality. Corn muffin is unassuming and wrapped like a cheap muffin but tastes like heaven. All the meats and sauces are also on point. We showed up half hour before close and still couldn’t deny the flavor and texture. Hot sauce here has a unique kick also that I’ve yet to decipher what the aftertaste is. Underrated joint for bbq in Chicagoland.

I’ve been wanting to go this place for a long time and I finally got a chance to stop by. I ordered the rib tips, sausage and chicken. I was pretty disappointed that The tips and chicken were pretty flavorless and relied on a sauce that was below average. The saving grace was the sausage, cornbread and fries. I would suggest to season the tips and chicken and go back to the drawing board with sauce. The people were nice so I hope the food improves in the future.

First time hearing about this BBQ Restaurant…. And was i surprised to find authentic SMOKED/BBQ!! TASTY, DELICIOUS, MEATY, Cooks in the kitchen cooking!!! It’s not easy to find real good cooked BBQ, living up north. But I was amazed! Well worth the trip to Evanston in the Chicago Winter! The cashier and the pit master preparing the food were all respectful and polite!

I moved away from Evanston 40 years ago and Hecky’s back then was very good. I’m here for a bit doing some caregiving and have sampled a few establishments that I remembered. On its own Hecky’s food is still awesome and as compared to other establishments it stand at the top of the pyramid. Great barbecued chicken. Service is still great too. Prices have gone up everywhere and I think they’re still competitive.

Always passed by this place, it’s easy to miss as you drive because it’s on the corner while you are making a turn.
Finally, I tried this place, and damn, it was hit.
Got thr Chicago combo, really smokey and tender rib tips with pork hot link. True chicago style, and the sauce was not overpowering.
Pulled pork sandwich was soft, juicy and tender, nice touch with brioche bun, that buttery sweet bun complementary to savory bbq sauced pulled pork. And the potato salad was a hit too.
Damn I cant wait to try their brisket and other side dishes! Actually maybe gotta check out smoked wings first.
This place is sort of hidden gem, when you talk bbq in Chicago, everyone talks about Lem’s bbq, smoque, green street etc, but not this place. Not many places does this style, rip tip and hot links combo.
Take out only, thats the only bad part and little bit of parking but food is excellent.

Great local BBQ spot! The sauce is incredible and ties everything together. Their rib tips are tasty but not smoked as long, which makes the meat tougher/chewier and doesn’t allow the fat to render (bigger chunks of fat). This could be a personal preference. The hot links are delicious and the fries are exceptional – the seasoning is perfect! Caramel cake is homemade and is perfectly moist. The caramel is a little gritty and I’d love a little more tackiness but has a nice flavor

Very welcoming folks. I tried the rib tips and hot links (mild). They were very meaty with a little bit of chew to them. Just the way I like my rib tips. I had a 50/50 mix of hot and regular sauce. I also got a side of each and would just go with the hot sauce (a little bite) next go round.
I also bought 1/2 slab of St. Louis, 1/2 slab of baby back and some more rib tips to take to a friend in Arizona. It’s the one food item he wants whenever he gets back here to visit.
The place is kept super clean inside and out. One of their staff was sweeping up garbage from the curb. Bravo!!! Love to see it. Definitely give them a go.

Hecky’s Barbecue has been a Evanston staple for years . I decided to have them for lunch again one day and it was good . I ordered the “mutt” and it delivered. The mutt is two smoked wings , rib tips ,one hot link and fries. The wings could’ve been cooked a little longer but was still tasty and the sauce isn’t my favorite but everything else was good . Hecky’s always come through when I have a taste for bbq.
