Reviews
Shakespeare’s in Hamilton is a true local institution — decades strong, family-run across multiple generations, and still anchored by Franco in the kitchen, quietly grilling up pure magic. The food is the heart of the place, and it shows. The steaks are, quite simply, phenomenal: perfectly seasoned, flawlessly cooked, and consistently among the best you’ll find anywhere in the region. Every dish feels classic in the best possible way — generous, well-executed, and deeply satisfying.
Service is impeccable, polished without being stuffy, and the whole experience has that timeless, old-school fine-dining charm that’s getting harder and harder to find. I’ve been coming here for decades — first with my family, and now with my own — and the quality has never wavered.
In a city where dining trends come and go, Shakespeare’s stands on its own. There is no other fine-dining restaurant in Hamilton with this level of staying power, consistency, and culinary excellence.
A rock-solid 5 out of 5 stars.
The steaks were perfect.. The service was on point and our waiter was very familiar with the menu and helpful with any questions. The atmosphere was my favorite in that it was an old school, high end steakhouse. Lots of quirky paintings of Henry the 8th, beautiful mahogany walls, lovely lantern style hanging lights, white table cloths.. I think you get what I’m saying❤️. Highly recommended their French Onion soup
Hope this place doesn’t go anywhere as I plan on making it a staple for when company comes into town
I loved everything from the very first moment I opened the door of this restaurant.
The absolutely sweet lady picked up our coat and then we entered the restaurant. The waiters were all friendly, moderately talkative, and witty. They easily adjusted to our communication style and created friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
As soon as we sit at the table we were immediately served with water and some complimentary snacks and were provided with menus.
The waiters are knowledgeable about the menu and can really present and sell it without pressure and in enjoyable ways.
The food itself was good. I definitely want to try some other options they have next time.
The atmosphere was great! Not too loud music, so we could talk easily. Other guests far enough so we don’t interfere each others.
Even though the place closed at 10 pm, no one was rushing us to leave and let us stay and enjoy our meal and wait for the car till almost 11 pm.
Absolutely great experience. And I even say so far the best in my almost 3 years in Canada.
Thank you all and best wishes to your business!
My friend and I had dinner here to celebrate our birthdays, and really had a wonderful night. Everyone was super friendly especially Warner, who is so kind and professional. We ordered one 12oz ribeye to share and it was served in two dishes beautifully. We got the dessert with sparkle for our birthdays and the apply pie was so good! It was very nice of them to sing happy birthday for us. As a matter of fact, there were also other three groups of guests celebrating birthdays the same night and we got to hear the birthday song four times! Many thanks!
Food was good, despite being a little bit too salty for us. It was amazing to experience the cooking by the original owner/chef since the store was opened in 1969, and to see the original deco and the retro paper order form!
Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant!
