Five star food in a casual atmosphere! The Magnolia Room at the Chalfonte is a little hidden gem in Cape May. Dine inside or outside on the historic porch. Since it was raining, we opted for inside. Service was excellent, staff were attentive and friendly. Cocktails from the King Eddy were perfect as always. Usually known for their brunch, we gave dinner a go and were not disappointed: New York strip special ::chef kiss:: Tuna Special ::chef kiss::

Dined with 5 college buddies doing 50 year reunion on Sept 25, Thursday night for dinner, drinks and listening to the live music. Ate out on porch near to the 11 piece band and it was awesome. Band played cool rock, country, pop really well. Ours was a music loving group from Philly, NYC, Boston and thought the band was unbelievably good. Excellent service, tasty chicken and a really good corn pudding side special and in the open air with linen table cloth, napkins etc. Really classy, fun, cool. The band drew a large street crowd as well. Service top notch. Once of the best restaurant and entertainment venues i have been in the last couple years.

I went for dinner with my friend on the last night of our vacation. The Magnolia Room’s fried chicken had been recommended to us by an associate, so we figured we’d go and try it. The food wasn’t bad, but it was nothing special-a bit better than fast food, for $30-something a plate. The service we received was lacking. Our server forgot our request for sauce, it took forever to get our drinks or even get our order in, and it felt like they were generally distracted despite it being a fairly slow night. I don’t think I’d recommend this place or go back.

The food was very good. I had the scallops with cream corn. It was all very good and the dessert was good as well. The cocktail Keywester was also good. The service was not the greatest. We had to wait awhile for service. The price of the food was very high.

The food was at best, disappointing. I’m sure the women featured on the website would not have served overcooked, dry chicken. The crab cakes were worse, also and not fresh.
We had to ask for small plates for our appetizers, tartar sauce (mostly mayonnaise, poor flavor) and the waiter disappeared twice.
Room is dingey, could use a freshening up.
Oh, final insult – the men’s room reeked of urine.

Lovely dining experience at the Magnolia Room. Attentive service, wonderful and creative food choices ( don’t miss the Pan Seared Sea Scallops), and if you are there on the right night, fabulous live music on the wrap around porch. Not to be missed!

I liked this place,it seems perfect for the summertime.we dined on the porch. Our served Iva was great and the host, Connor, provided good attentive service. Fried chicken is highly recommended. I found the music outside a bit too loud, but I like that ppl congregate porch side for a mini concert. The inside dining area seems a bit drab and dated, the set up certainly doesn’t seem ideal as a restaurant, but they make it work. The old porch provides plenty of character, but the uncomfortable seating and extreme slant of the porch provide dining challenges. Not the most comfortable dining experience for the money, but It has its charm and we will return.

A picturesque porch with wonderful food and drinks! The servers are quick but not so fast that you feel rushed. Delicious food and clever drinks. Been coming here for 15 years and will come here for as long as we can! If you can come on a night with live music, you’ll be in for a special treat!

The new chef is doing great! Best dinner in Cape May this year! The fried chicken is better than Red Rooster in Harlem. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly. And of course, sitting on the beautiful porch was one of the highlights of our vacation. Holly recommended.

The greeting and seating was pleasant and quick. Easy to reserve and we have wanted to try for years. The reviews were not great but me and my wife wanted to experience the cape May tradition. That was the great part of the review. Now for the food. We started with appetizers of spring rolls very small but tasty and baby back ribs that were tender but the glaze was too sweet for my taste. My wife tried the famous fried chicken but was sadly bland and dry in parts. She asked for gravy to help it out but that was thin and not very good. To think they charged a premium of $32 for chicken with a breast the size of a drumstick. The cornbread that was brought out was lukewarm at best. I ordered the crab cake which was very small and at $36 to receive only one is a shame. The waitress was attentive but not creative but served us promptly. Overall rating of 2 stars was due to pricing and poor flavor from a restaurant that was supposed to deliver southern charm.
