Reviews
I tried aloo kulcha with cholle and vegetarian thali. The serving size was more than sufficient for one person.
Located just a few steps away from the beach it’s easy to reach.
The staff is a friendly mix of Indian and Thai, capable of handling orders in both Hindi and English, which is helpful. The menu is extensive, covering a wide range of vegetarian and non-vegetarian North Indian cuisine. Service is steady and reliable (I’d rate it 4/5)—not lightning fast, but perfectly acceptable.
The food itself is genuinely good. It’s well-balanced, authentic, and truly transports you back to India with that lovely, homely taste. The atmosphere and the food blend together seamlessly to provide a comforting experience. However, nothing about the meal or atmosphere stands out as truly extraordinary or unique.
Here is where the restaurant loses significant marks. While the taste is good, the prices and portion sizes make the dining experience feel exorbitantly expensive. For a fairly basic meal among six people, our bill approached 10,000 INR. This pricing is comparable to high-end fine dining restaurants back in India, yet the experience here doesn’t justify that premium. Having tried several Indian restaurants across Thailand, I found this one to be the most expensive and offered the least value for money.
My two cents:
If budget is absolutely no constraint for you, and you are seeking a decent, authentic Indian meal with a homely feel, do visit. However, as a value-for-money traveler, I have to recommend caution. The food is good, but the cost-to-portion ratio makes it a very poor proposition compared to other available options in the area.
The chicken tikka roll was also decent. It was wrapped in a chapati type roti and not paratha like we get in Pakistan. Still it tasted good (8.5/10).
The sweet lassi was good just like we get back in our home.
Ok now the reason for 3 star. The vibe killed it for me. The place has dimmed lights so you can’t actually make sure of hygine. Also, the stairs from other Indians trying to identify our identity was a bit awkward. Some passing by comments from indians on our empty thali (our food arrived in parts) not like we ordered one item lol.
Location and Atmosphere
Amritsr is strategically located right on the bustling Patong Beach Road, making it highly accessible for tourists and locals alike. The venue promises an authentic Indian dining experience, and while the ambiance was pleasant, I found the interior lighting to be on the darker side, which subtracted slightly from the overall atmosphere. It felt a little too dimly lit for a casual late lunch, perhaps setting a mood better suited for dinner service.
The Meal: Chole Bhature
Given my travel fatigue and lack of hunger for a multi-course dinner, I settled on a classic comfort dish: the Chole Bhature. I was pleased with the presentation—it arrived exactly as it should, accompanied by a generous serving of pickles, sliced onions, and a lemon wedge, signaling an adherence to traditional serving style.
The bhature itself was satisfactory—lightly fried and airy, acting as the perfect canvas for the main event. However, the chole (chickpea curry) was where the experience diverged from my high expectations. While the flavor profile was undeniably good and savory, it was missing that characteristic tanginess and complex punch that elevates truly great chole. It was flavorful, yes, but lacked the depth and zest I was hoping for based on the restaurant’s reputation.
Final Verdict
My personal experience with the Chole Bhature was good, but not great. It left me wondering if my expectations were simply too high after days of craving, or if this particular dish didn’t align perfectly with my taste buds.
Despite my slightly mixed feelings about the chole, I would still recommend a visit. The restaurant comes highly reviewed by many, and I have personally had a very positive experience at one of their other branches, suggesting my single-dish critique may be an isolated incident.
Rating: 3/5 (Based solely on my personal experience with the Chole Bhature on this visit.)
Rakesh our server did a a fabulous job!
It’s saviour for Indians who are vegetarian or want to feel at home.
