I came Wednesday at 1:45 PM.The reason for the four stars is because I feel like the food could’ve been fresher. I understand its a slower time of day but the food quality was a bit lower. The food itself was tasty but you can tell it was out for a while. Probably would try it again at a more popular lunchtime so that they change out the food more frequently on the buffet area. Empanadas were cooked fresh and were hot but the flavor was just average.
The menu states that they also have alcoholic drinks available. Service is fast and friendly

Ordered a large order of cuajitos mainly because it was cold and was craving the broth. When it arrived I had a large bowl of DRY cuajitos. I called the restaurant to be told they no longer have the dish as they ran out and try serve it with the broth. Soooo I was served what was left and since there was no broth left they sent it out like that. No apologies, no other options given.

I don’t event know where to start. Being a Puerto Rican that can cook really great Puerto Rican food, i can say it’s extremely difficult to find an AUTHENTIC Puerto Rican restaurant that serves AMAZING food and AUTHENTIC Island Vibes.

The server we had, I didn’t catch her name but she was fair skinned short with greenish blue eyes and a beautiful Puerto Rican accent. She treated us with the Island hospitality… something you don’t get anywhere any more.

We ordered so much food but I can say EVERYTHING WAS AMAZING!!!! The food took sometime to come out but it was all FRESH and SO DELICIOUS!!! – I will travel 1.5 hrs for this place any day

100/100 recommend

As a Puerto Rican recently moved to the area, I was really excited to try La Criolla Café & Restaurant. I’ve been on the hunt for a place that feels like home. Unfortunately, this visit was really disappointing.

We ordered white rice, beans, and chicken topped with what was supposed to be a cream sauce. When I opened the container, the chicken looked old, dry, and covered in what honestly resembled white goop rather than a sauce. I still decided to give it a chance since I was home, but the taste confirmed my worry, it felt like canned white nacho cheese warmed up and poured over chicken.

I’ve had this dish many times back on the island and in other Puerto Rican spots, so I thought it would be a safe bet. The pictures on Google and their menu looked so promising, but what I received was nothing like that. Maybe it was a one-off, but as a restaurant, sending out food in that condition just isn’t ok. I was genuinely looking forward to supporting local Puerto Rican cuisine here in Davenport, but I left really disappointed.

They always have fresh food and a special “criollo” flavor. We always order “queso frito” as an entree it comes with a guava sauce. My wife usually order salmon, but I prefer red meat like “carne frita” or ribs usually with “arroz con gandules mamposteado”. They also serve breakfast and have a menu on the steam table with daily specials. The size of the service is huge compared with the price and the service is always super friendly and fast. I recommend this restaurant to all my friends.

I wanted Spanish food, rice and beans and churraco (steak). It was a choice of salad or a soup so salad it is.
The waitress brought my salad on a 4” plate and I thought it was a joke but nope.
I received my meal and the rice was salty and it’s not the first time, the steak was a failure as well. That didn’t taste like a steak
3 strike, done with this place

I ordered a churrasco steak and mofongo. Unfortunately, I returned the dish because the meat smelled and tasted like it was spoiled. Also, the mofongo didn’t seem fresh. The staff was very understanding, took back the plate, and offered to replace it with another order.

The place was amazing, service and food top notch! If you are looking for good puertorican food this is definitely the place to go. The frappes were delicious but their in house juice are amazing too. Everything we tried we loved. Will be going back to try their breakfast next time.

They took a bite into my food and gave it to me to go. Had I dined inside, I would have mentioned something about the food being bitten and then thrown in my plate. To Go Orders: are susceptible to error. First time I had oil leaking out of my to go containers and second time the food was so hot inside the container that it melted the plastic (this is very bad for your health). These people don’t know what they’re doing. Not Recommended.

I have been to this place many times. The last 2 times I went I said it was the last time I go there because of lack in quality of the food. But this time will definitely be the last . Mind I’m Puerto Rican as well that’s why I have been giving them more opportunities but this was the final straw. I had the Yellow rice with and beans with pork chops. They also offer another side which I chose the yellow plantains because when I asked her about the macaroni salad if it was fresh she told me it had been out for a while so I chose the prior. After I paid and sat down ate some rice and some beans and it was great. But when I bite into the pork chop with that confidence something said don’t swallow while the chunk went slowly down my throat, (mind you I had been craving some pork chops because the ones we had at home where all gone), I noticed a really bad aftertaste in my mouth. When I smelled the pork chop it smelled like crap with seasoning. I almost vomited right there. I let them know and they kindly gave me and my family a refund. The young lady in charge of the service area was really nice about it . But I don’t know if the person she spoke with was the manager or owner was very unprofessional. He didn’t even come over to speak with us or even acknowledge us . He looked at us like if it was are fault his food was rotten. I highly believe NO ONE should eat here . If an owner, manager or cook have accountability in a business so delicate as it is the food industry they should not be operating because lives are in danger. Luckily my poisoning was not that severe. A little bit of vomiting and stomach pain ( mind you I only bit off a tiny piece. A side not my wife did say the pernil was really good and the yucca. I’m glad they had a much better experience then I did . But never again will I go there. All puertoricans looking for a home cooked meal BEWARE. And for all other cultures we have many other wayyyy better representations of are food traditions then this
