Steak ‘n Shake, a classic American brand, was founded in 1934 in Normal, Illinois by Gus Belt who pioneered the concept of premium burgers and milkshakes. For over 85 years, the company’s name has been symbolic of its heritage. The word steak stood for steakburger. The term shake stood for hand-dipped milkshakes. Gus was determined to serve his customers the finest burgers and shakes in the business. Today, Steak ‘n Shake remains the better burger leader, serving premium 100% beef steakburgers, hand-dipped milkshakes, thin crispy fries, and more. Steakburgers are made without preservatives or artificial ingredients, topped with fresh produce, and always hand-crafted to order.

Chain known for steakburgers & milkshakes offering a dinerlike space with retro flair.

Stopped in for a late lunch. Decided to try the Western BBQ’N Bacon Steakburger, with a small fry, pop and the Frisco Sauce. Received my order pretty quickly after ordering, the employees are very friendly, the restaurant is clean and has a good atmosphere. The burger definitely did not look like the picture but that’s fast food for you. The burger was decent, the fries were ok, and I really liked the Frisco Sauce. I will have to try a shake next time I go.

I had a great experience at Steak ‘n Shake today! I loved being able to walk in and order easily from a self-order kiosk. The interface was straightforward, and I appreciated having full control over customizing my meal.

I did notice the kiosk requested a tip, but since I placed and managed my order myself, I didn’t feel the need to add one. Tip culture in the U.S. is getting a little out of hand, and I really value when restaurants make self-service a true option without pressure.

I follow an epi-paleo diet, which means I don’t eat gluten. I was able to order a triple burger without the bun and add two extra patties, and it made a satisfying meal that fit my dietary choices perfectly. It can be difficult for me to find something I can eat when dining out, so this was a big win.

My kids don’t eat epi-paleo and they enjoyed their standard American diet choices—everyone left happy, which is rare at a fast casual spot!

Overall, everything was great. I’ll definitely be back because I’ve finally found a meal I can enjoy when I’m out and about. Steak ‘n Shake made that possible, and I really appreciate it.

I haven’t been to a Steak n’ Shake since 2013. The kiosks replaced customer service associates and servers. I think the kiosks are a good idea for faster service but the older crowd might have a little trouble with this. Plus, people are already so socially awkward nowadays that if you take away basic human interaction then the kids REALLY won’t know how to communicate effectively anymore.

It looks like they took a lot of my old favorites off the menu–like the Chili Mac. Our burgers didn’t take long, though. You pick it up at the counter when they call out your name. They were dry and underwhelming. Not at all how we remembered them. And, the beef tallow fries were quite unremarkable. I was craving a bit of college nostalgia but after this, I don’t think I’ll ever need to go back. Oh, well. If you’re looking for a quick, cheap, boring burger and fries that won’t satisfy you then this is your place.

I get the hype now! I had never been to a Steak & Shake before.

1240 on a Monday and it was busy. No shakes until after 3…..what?!?! Bummed about that.

Ordered from the kiosk (which I don’t enjoy) and it took about 10 minutes for my order. Why does it ask for a tip? I mean, you order yourself, pick up yourself, bus your own table. Did the classic double cheeseburger with small fries.

The burger was great! Reminded me of Culver’s with the buttery taste and cripsed edges. Love the long pickle slices. Fries also really good. And the amount for a small was quite generous.

Cost was $8.44 which seemed good! I will go back and try other things.

We stopped here on our way back home to MN in November. I had the garlic burger & it was fantastic. Last week I had a hankering for a burger just like this. I searched everywhere I could think of to find something similar with no success. If it weren’t 4 hours from me, I would’ve driven to get another one. So freaking good! Ooey gooey buttery garlic cheesey goodness you can’t beat!

The wife and I drive about 30 miles to have Steak ‘n Shake. We haven’t had it in years. Decided we had nothing better to do. Was excited. But we couldn’t come in and sit down, we had to keep moving. Made it about 15 miles back home decided to eat on the move. Opened burger. Instantly disappointed. The bread was stacked on each other, one slice of cheese and 2 severely dried patties and no sauce anywhere. Hopefully one day we can try again and not be disappointed. The food is on I-80 eastbound. Should have taken a picture but I was angry. The bottle of was was room temp also. Do better. All those employees working and no quality control. No cares given. I should have steered clear seeing the 3.5 star rating. The place wasn’t even busy. I guess I’ll have to drive to Iowa city to get better service.

Probably the worst burger joint in town. The shakes aren’t that good and are over priced. To call what they serve “steak” is an Orwellian level of double speak. The wdm location does not appear to be well run. The wait is always long. I’ve been through the drive thru more than once where nobody even attempted to take my order. If they can’t take their customer’s orders, I can’t imagine they are cleaning very well. I wouldn’t waste my money here.

My visit to Steak ‘n Shake was a pleasant experience. The combination of a retro atmosphere, good food, friendly service, and reasonable prices makes it a reliable choice for a quick and satisfying meal. If you’re in the mood for a tasty steakburger and a classic milkshake, Steak ‘n Shake is definitely worth checking out.

Burgers was decent. Very disappointed by shake. You would expect a good shake from a place with ‘shake’ in the name. Fries weren’t great, either. Onion rings were on point though. Price was okay, given today’s insane market. Certainly not a deal.
