When I went for dinner the other day with my partner, we were seated in their outside patio area and found that our table had half-dried ketchup and crumbs on it. Drinks came out, and the wait time for that was alright.
On the patio, there are often people smoking, even when children are present. On the night we were there, there was a family with loud children who were sprinting around the patio and yelling, throwing things, and spilling food on the ground without cleaning up after themselves.
We ordered food and the server brought a carrier to the table with ketchup, mustard, vinegar, etc. The bottles (especially the ketchup) were absolutely coated in ketchup and other condiments that hadn’t been wiped off, and I used 2 wet naps and 2 napkins just cleaning the ketchup off enough to hold without getting my hands dirty.
My partner had water with his food, and found that it tasted plasticky and there were little particles floating in the it, so he requested a fresh one with no ice and told the waitress about the issue. She brought a fresh water with no ice, but with just as many particles floating it it. We originally thought the problem was with their ice machine not being cleaned, but clearly there must be an issue with their water lines.
I get the sense that food prices have gone up here in the last few years as well. When I first went to Dwyer’s several years ago, it was priced competitively enough to be a no-brainer for a cheap night out. My draft beer was ~$7-8, and our food was also fairly expensive. There are other restaurants in the area that feel considerably cleaner and are cheaper or comparable in price.
When the waitress brought our check, the price listed on it was incorrect, as two extra orders of food had been mistakenly added. She corrected it and apologized, and we were fine with that, but I’m glad we made sure to check the bill before paying.
I don’t generally write reviews, and I like most restaurants I go to. Dwyer’s has always been, at least for us, a chill dive bar we could go and have an affordable dinner and drink at. Their slipping hygiene standards and increasing prices have killed any interest we have in returning, but I hope they address these issues for the sake of their other customers.
1 1/2 wait for food.
Fish fry was frozen, not fresh.
Supposed to be a 12oz hamburger but was a tiny little burger inside a giant bun.
Took 3 attempts asking for a waitress ( and 45 minutes) before we got anyone to come to our table to take drink orders and only half the table were filled so not busy.
Just horrible place and with so many good restaurants nearby we won’t come back.
We decided to try Dwyer’s Irish Pub but NEVER again!
The restaurant is pretty big. Lots of tables inside and they can accommodate groups. They have a large outdoor patio as well with a good amount of seating. It’s definitely a historic building and divey kind of bar.
First of all the service was not good. It took a long time to get menus, waters and finally drinks. Trying to get refills was even harder. Once we were able to order the food took a ridiculous amount of time. We waited well over an hour. We ordered very standard bar type food. The server barely came back to check on us. People who came after us got their food before us. We asked the server about the food status at one point and she said it wasn’t ready and she would check. 15 minutes later the food came. Some was hot and fresh. Other items were cold, one item was not edible. I understand it’s busy and places are understaffed but we would have rather gotten the food as it was cooked so people could eat their food hot. It didn’t seem like the server cared much or was paying attention to when the food was up.
My pizza logs were hot and tasty. The sweet potato fries were cold. I did love that they were shoestring and still very crispy. They would have been even better hot. My significant other had the steak sandwich and he said it was fine. Other friends had the wings and said they were very good. Another friend had a burger which came out burnt, like had black char on one side. It was really obvious and the kitchen should have caught this and not sent it out. It took so long to get our food we ended up having to drive the boat home in the dark. Not a great situation.
Seems we came on a bad night. We did enjoy the band and people watching. If you come to NT in the summer on a weekend make a reservation for the place you really want to go to avoid this kind of thing.
