I usually would say the food here is pretty good. But I will also state that it is extremely inconsistent when it comes to the food I have received. I usually order a lettuce wrapped burger (which they offer on the menu) and I’m given a couple patty’s on top of shredded lettuce without the toppings I ordered, I got two and it came out to 35 dollars. With it being this much and not getting what I paid for it’s hard to want to come back.

I’ve had them many times over the decades, but this was the first time after the ownership change. It was delicious then, and it’s just as delicious now. I love how you can ‘beast style’ any burger. And the quality with the beef has improved, in my opinion. I get that some locals might need to get used to the change, but I bet most are happy that this iconic Drive-In is open for business, and slinging good grub…

Great place to get an old fashioned burger fries onion rings and even a shake. The food was good the service was good they were friendly and got our orders as soon as they could. The one thing I would like to tell people is be careful of that driveway. It’s not easy to maneuver.

Just ate there today. Didn’t realize it was under new management until we were there. They have cut back the menu considerably and changed things like the fries and special sauce that were Cougar country staples.
I got the “mushroom burger”, which they don’t officially have anymore but they have all the ingredients and were very nice about being able to recreate it like the old one. My husband is a vegetarian and the only option now is the garden burger (they got rid of the beyond burger and the black bean burger). We both agreed the burgers were good, however the buns are much smaller than before.
The biggest disappointment were the fries. Neither me nor my husband were a big fan of the previous crinklecut fries, but we would hands down prefer though over the new fries. They were mostly small and soggy. It seemed as if they were fried long before and had sat in a heap absorbing their own steam.
I understand that the new owners are trying to make things more local and fresh, but no one asked or wanted that from Cougar Country. They want good tasting food that is traditional to the restaurant. For us, it didn’t matter if the fries or buns were frozen previously since they tasted good. We didn’t care if the beef was local or grass-fed or whatever as long as it tasted good and not overly expensive.
Unfortunately we may not be returning. If we return again, we will go with the onion rings instead of fries, but will seek other restaurants first.

Wow what an amazing place!! As we walked in we were greeted by Hunter. He was so professional, helpful and friendly. The food was so good complaints to the chef, Hamza,! The fries need no sauce and the cheese burger was one of the best burgers I’ve EVER had!! I love how they are wrapped so nicely. You can tell he puts pride in his work. Also thank you for having Coke Zero! Very nice and clean place, Go Cougs!!! Highly recommend this place! Thank you very much!!

If you are ever in Pullman WA Cougar Country is a must. It’s a Pullman institution. If I am there for a game or visiting my sister who is a local I am there. The minute you walk in you get transported to an old school burger place and the customer service is outstanding. They have a great menu but I stick with the bacon burger and fries. They have the good fry sauce. The burger is classic and it is not sloppy or overrun with shredded lettuce. They will make it to order so if you do not like something they will exclude it. They have fantastic shakes and cyclones. It’s Oreo for me. Thick and creamy you will not be disappointed and they have over 20 flavors. Give them a try and support local. You will not be disappointed.

Went in looking forward to the crinkle fries and huckleberry shake but the shake machine was down and they changed the fries. It was supposed to be a nostalgic stop when visiting Pullman but didn’t taste like cougar country besides the fry sauce.

The burger and fries were hot, fresh and delicious, seriously 10/10, BUT just not the vibe I wanted after I drove away.

I have been eating at here for 34 years and am thoroughly disgusted with the food after this most recent ownership change. The chicken strips were burned and tasted burnt grease. The fries were also overcooked. The bun on the hamburger is so thin the patty falls out. The Coke was flat and the menu change sucks. Everybody wants the same menu, with the same recipes and don’t change the fry sauce!.

The word that best describes today’s visit to Cougar Country is “sad.” The callous and unnecessary changes that have been made to this institution have affected the fabric of Pullman in the most negative way. The total lack of customer service, evident in the flippant and rude comments on this forum from the new owners, and their tone deaf approach to a community icon will hopefully be their demise in this small town. All of the one-star reviews over the past month or so tell the story of Cougar Country’s downfall.

A cardinal rule of being a new manager is that you don’t make major changes in at least your first six months. Clearly, additional training is needed for this management team. Why would you change something that no one was complaining about? The menu has been gutted and the classic Cougar Country items have all been cut. Who thought that was a good idea?

Aside from the emotional impact of the new and ruined Cougar Country, their “fresh” fries and chicken strips are overcooked, dry, and tasteless. The burger itself was sloppy and soggy from the overuse of mayonnaise. And the fry sauce? Gone forever, it seems, and replaced with pink mayonnaise.

As with so many previous commenters, I will not be returning.

Rest in peace old Cougar Country, you will be deeply missed. The new fries are quite frankly disgusting – somehow they have miraculously managed to burn the fries while simultaneously making them completely soggy, a feat I have never encountered anywhere else. Slimy texture, limp with grease, brown in color, and all around disappointing. We don’t care if the old fries were “frozen and processed”, because your idea of a replacement is insulting to the long time patrons. Half the reason we came here was because they used to have the best fries around, hands down. What is the justification for the price increase? I fear our town may never know.

PS they used to include a small paper with every order prompting us to call if we were unsatisfied or something was wrong. Gone are those days too. But we will not be silenced.
