Food and services were on the dot. One of the best we have past few days.
Wished we have more time at the boutique to enjoy the view. We started at 1330 and had to leave after lunch at 1500 to make sure we are in time to get back to Val Thorens
We tried very hard to visit this restaurant. As a family of four with 2 teenagers we planned our route from Courchevel to Val Thorens, including several red runs, using the information provided to us by Chez Pepe Nicolas (on their website, and via the confirmation email sent to us in the morning of the booking).
On the day we visited, despite all provided information, it simply was NOT accessible via skiis. First we tried the La Chasse red run but that was closed (and also hard to find). We asked a snow patrol guy if he knew how to get there, and he advised us that the route was closed and that he wasn’t aware of any other way. Then we made a detour to the blue Blvd Cummin run to try that (since the website listed it) but there is no way to get to the restaurant on skiis from this route (despite what the website said at the time). We paused at the Le Setor? restaurant on the track to Les Menuires to ask for direction but they were not able to correspond in English. Stuck in Les Menuires with no other options to try, we tried to call the restaurant but unfortunately could not get through (bad reception in the mountains?). After much effort trying different routes, and with our window for returning to Courchevel rapidly closing, we had to abandon the search and ski back without any lunch.
After getting back to Courchevel safely (after a very long day with hungry children) we tried to discuss the matter with management. They insisted that they had provided alternate instructions – since they knew the published route was not possible (we didn’t receive these detour instructions) and they took no responsibility at all for their miscommunication, and proceeded to charge us.
Despite showing the restaurant our call and message logs from my phone indicating that we tried, unsuccessfully, to contact them, and that we had NOT received any other messages from them other than a confirmation-request SMS, they refused to accept any responsibility and charged us 200 EUR. I also offered them proof of our route from Strava recorded with a GPS tracker, but they refused to respond.
They have since updated their website with more accurate instructions, which is helpful, but to treat honest customers as criminals is rather disappointing, and this was, by far, the worst restaurant experience we had in the three valleys over a 10 day period.
Been here twice in one week. Make sure to book a table in advance. The atmosphere is magical.
