The mains continued to amaze – octopus bring their signature dish , salmon was perfect and among a table of 8 everyone was impressed.
Deserts were perfect end with complimentary port served on departure.
If we return to Lisbon we will be back.
The staff is professional and the service is pleasant.
The vegetables that come with the main course are tasty, but the quantity is too large and I get tired of them. So it would be nice to have a little variety.
But we will definitely come back again
What is scam – a waiters puted on the table at the beggining a cup of olives, small cup of octopus salad, and bread. That is really convenient in Lisbon, to get on the table cup of olives and bread. Almost in 99% of restaurants and everywhere this is free for guest. In case of Maria Peixeria restaurant this is not a case, is not free and I got it at receipt to pay. In addition, a glass of average red wine is 5,5 EUR, and because I am here in Lisbon more than one month I am informed about wines prices, such wine is priced in every store 8-9 EUR bottle. To conclude, restaurant provide tasteful food, but don’t followed Portuguese hospitality which is at really high level. It has hidden businesses philosophy to cover costs and took your money. My overall bill at the end was 54,40 EUR for not so complicated and expensive food. In Lisbon, you can for that money get much more and better foods in 90 percents of other restaurants. In Lisbon, you can come without fear to be overcharged, what is not a case in my opinion, here. ps. I come after dinner across another review and owners responded on negative reviews on very unfriendly ways, what is for me indication how that business philosophy is not by accident.
On our return from Madeira, a few days later, we booked a table for dinner.
When we sat down, the waitress brought the “house starter”. We could opt to have it or not, she said, the prices are on the menu. It was the same octopus salad we’d had before plus olives, bread and butter. We expected to pay for the octopus, the olives and the bread. But we missed the fact that the two tiny containers of “house butter” cost €2.25 each.
We noticed that not everyone was given the house starter. Possibly only tourists?
It took the good out of what otherwise was a very tasty meal.
I would recommend everyone to come enjoy their dishes as they are so amzing!
