We were skeptical at first. The parking lot was empty. It was very quiet when we walked in. I noticed the lovely decor right away. We were seated and we asked to move. No problem. Then we asked to move again. Still no problem. Our waiter, Bravo, was so helpful and knowledgeable. He offered suggestions, staff favorites, customer favorites, and when I told him how I preferred my guacamole “extra limey” to my surprise, that’s exactly what I got! It was a wonderful experience. The food was excellent. Even my grumpy old hubby was pleased and commented on how good his food was. That’s huge! So, thank you for a wonderful evening out!

Great service & food. I have to say I wasn’t expecting to hear country music overhead in a Mexican restaurant. I had ordered the Hawaiian fajita but when I spoke to the waiter I had asked to leave off the pineapple. That was dumb request on my part, but thankfully the waiter didn’t understand what I had asked for. When the meal came I realize the pineapple was the star of this plate! Ooops…super tasty thought.

I hadn’t been here for quite some time. I did really like the food & atmosphere! But the service was pretty ridiculous. They did have a sign on the door saying they were hiring, so hopefully that had something to do with it.

The restaurant looks very nice and is beautifully decorated. The chips and salsa were the best part of the meal. The food was below average for a Mexican restaurant and was only liked by one person in our party. Unfortunately this restaurant was not for me.

I told the waiter I wanted to get his favorite thing on the menu. Omg it was sooooo good. I didn’t catch the name of the dish he did point it out on the menu. It has a big piece if flat stake and of chicken, shrimp, few big chunks of chorizo, jelepino with cream cheese wrapped in bacon, onions, green onions, cactus, a big jelepino, 2 big chunks of some kind of cheese, really good. Then it comes with rice, beans and tortillas. I couldn’t even finish half there was soo much I definitely had to take it to go. It was only 22 and we’ll worth it, so much flavor. Staff is friendly and place is nice and comfy.

Good America/Mexican restaurant, great for the area. Salsa was all tomato tasting, but cheese dip was good, entrees was good. Fairly priced pitchers of beer but draft selection was small ( can’t blame them being small town)

Had Fajitas Jalisco which were excellent. Picky Husband had the Ottawa Tacos and he was very happy. Server was super friendly and attentive. Will go back when we’re in the area

El Mezcal is a good Mexican restaurant near the town square in Ottawa, Kansas. The food is good, the service is fast, and the people are friendly. Overall, I would definitely recommend it.
It’s a somewhat busy restaurant, but not overly so. The decor includes pictures and scenes of old Mexico. However, it’s all brightly colored and I found it a bit distracting.
The prices aren’t bad. They’re slightly cheaper than other Mexican restaurants in the area and the service is better than the other restaurants in the area. We were immediately seated and our food was ready very quickly.
The food is great. The only criticism I have is that the rice and beans weren’t as warm as I would have liked. Nearly every dish is served with rice and beans, and many are served with guacamole and sour cream. The beverages are pepsi products and they even have a bar.

The place was almost empty and we still had to stand in line for better than 5 minutes before we got seated, then when we were served if you were needing anything you had to hunt to find the waitress, when she handed us our bill, I paid her in cash what was on the receipt but then Again , never got a copy of the receipt. I had to had to ask for a copy of it. Then, when she gave me the receipt, she had discounted the price but was going to keep it, I guess as a tip. I pointed it out to her. She then said ok, you gave me this much so now I owe you this much, but was in such a hurry to get it done. Then she grabs up the money and said, “Oh, forget it!”. All I was trying to do was square up what the amount was and take care of the bill. Her attitude was really bad . My husband and I had never been there before and I promise you, because of her attitude, we’ll never be going back again! The food was mediocre and the service was Lousy!!! That’s for sure!
