I have been a regular customer for a long time and have ordered from this place many times. However, today’s experience was extremely disappointing. I ordered two mixed over rice platters and simply asked for one empty box. I was willing to pay $1–$2 for the box. Then the staff member said the empty box would cost $13 and clearly did not want to provide it at all.
This interaction felt very rude and unprofessional. It wasn’t about the cost—it was the attitude and the way the situation was handled. Experiences like indicate such create a negative impression and reflect poorly on customer service in New York City overall.
I believe establishments like this should be monitored more closely by the city, as behavior like this hurts the reputation of honest businesses and the city itself.
If the owner sees this message, I would genuinely like to hear your thoughts. I am not asking for anything in return—no refund, no compensation. I simply want to understand the owner’s perspective on how this situation was handled.

Hands down the best halal cart in New York. The mix gyro is absolutely to die for—perfectly seasoned meat, generous portions, and flavors that hit every single time. But what really sets this place apart is the customer service. Mahmoud himself is a legend—welcoming, kind, and genuinely cares about every customer. Food this good plus service like that? There’s honestly no one else like him. I’ll be coming back again and again.

Mahmoud’s Halal Truck in Astoria is an absolute gem. The food is consistently fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. The meats are tender and well-seasoned, the rice is fragrant, and the sauces bring everything together without overpowering the dish. Portions are generous and truly satisfying.
What really sets this truck apart is the service. Mahmoud is welcoming, professional, and clearly takes pride in his food. You can tell there is care put into every order. The truck is clean, efficient, and always draws a loyal crowd for a reason.
For anyone in Astoria looking for authentic, high-quality halal food, this spot is a must-try. Easily one of the best halal trucks in Queens.

When you die and reach heaven and request a mix platter, it will undoubtedly be from this place . Back in 2008, I stumbled upon this street cart, and to my delight, nothing about its taste or quality has changed since then. It still tastes as delicious as it did almost 18 years ago. This hidden gem of New York City stands out as the top-tier halal food truck. There’s simply nothing quite like it.

Tried for the first time, the chicken shawarma and the mixed platter were very dry for us. Rice was buttery and nice but the fries were okay. There is a very strong cumin smell, not so much flavor. Hot sauce was not spicy at all. The food came really quick, but overall food taste was a 3 star meal.

If it’s not Mahmoud’s …then I don’t want it. They always hook it up with the fries and eggplant in their gyro and platters. Food is always super fresh and delicious. Price is so reasonable considering it’s NYC. And I don’t even have to say anything cause once they see me, they know what I want: lamb gyro white sauce. Simple and delicious. 25/10.
