We thought the buffet was good. It has all your basic choices, and a few other options. The salad bar is a good size, and is not lacking. We did enjoy the buffet, and the menu. The service during my last dinner experience was not great unfortunately. The servers, yes more than one, called me “the grinch” and was talking about “how mean Im being to the baby”, “how I just need to give the poor thing the grape” and so on for not giving my child grapes. She does not like grapes. She will THROW them. Do I want to walk around and clean them up. No. Do I want to spend my whole dinner time playing improv baseball. No. Do other customers want to be hit by grapes. No, they dont. So for the servers to blatantly shame me and say this to everyone else, was disrespectful and rude. I would have rather pulled hair out of my food or had a drink spilled on me. I personally will not return for more shame. Which is a shame, because the food wasn’t bad.

AMAZING COZY BUFFET with tons of tasty choices! This place has been serving up Comfort foods for 45 years! And I love the old music from the 1940s they had playing. If you get there before 3:00 p.m. it’s only $10.99 for all you can eat! If you’re a down-home cowboy like me, you’ll love it . . . Check it out!

Here around 4:20 for buffet, disappointed in the food. Rost beef dryed out, bbq chicken legs over cooked, corn almost raw not sure they cooked the corn. Mashed potatoes like cement. Salad was good. Desert; apple cobbler no flavor, lemon cake dry and crumbly, browies baked to point of tasting burnt.
Staff was really greart. Atmosphere loud and noisy but that was from group of people that must been celebrating. Suggest the western steer owners take a trip to Spruce Pine, Nc western sizzler if they want to serve good food and really profit or send cooks to school. Can not recomend this one.

My wife & I got the 12oz tips with onions & peppers. The steak tips were not cooked to our liking. The meat tasted mushy & very salty. We asked for the cook to come out & talk to us about it. She said it was serloin steak, which we could tell it wasn’t. We were asked if we wanted our money back. We said no, because we didn’t want to look like we were looking for free meal. We already had the salad bar and sides that came with the meal ( Mac & cheese, fries). We did take 3 pieces of steak from each plate to go. We took those 6 pieces to a butcher friend of ours for him to look at & taste. We all agreed, it was some sort of plant based steak. NOT SERLOIN. We will definitely not be going back. Very bad for business, lying to people about the meat they serve. Bill was $64 plus tax. We also left $7 tip. WILL NOT BE BACK!!!!

The food on the hot bar was absolutely horrible – old and squishy and lots of sugar in everything. The only saving grace was their salad bar, which was pretty good. I had been here before they closed and it was pretty good. Since they have reopened not so much

First of all when I walked in to
WESTERN STEER, I came in hungry. The Buffett and drink was $20 and change.
That price in my opinion is just way too high. I sat down and the food wasn’t that bad,but it needed more seasoning the workers in there looked very sad. The waitress we had was an older woman and she was AWESOME.
My advice is that you guys come down on prices. $13.50 with your drink would be real cool. NOT $20, for that reason I’m not coming back.

One of the best all you can eat buffet places that is around. Actually this is the only one that is still standing to this day. All the other ones closed down, so if you’re close by Newton, stop on by and grab you some good home cooked food. My opinion better than any other buffet style restaurant around. Wish they would bring them back around Mount Airy and King NC area.

I have lots of memories here. Been coming here for 30 years. American comfort food, buffet style. The buffet is consistent, it does lack variety but it’s good. Breakfast buffet on weekends. Waitresses are very nice and you don’t run out of drink. Very prompt. I recommend Western Steer.
Edit; we just had lunch here today, and it was excellent. We had Billie as our waitress and she was very prompt. We had fresh drinks before we had to ask. Great service. Just had lunch here today and we got the best waitress once again “Billie”. Great service great food.
Fried green tomatoes on the breakfast bar. Delicious.

The buffet is not open. But you can order from the menu. Food is still great!

Edit. They have a drive thru window now. Still great food.

Came here on a Saturday around 2pm. It wasn’t packed at all. The food was hot and fresh per usual as should be for $20 a person for buffet lol. One of the best buffets around I can say that always loved this place. Great atmosphere and service.

This is a great place to eat. Robin W helps make this place great. She cooks, waitress and anything else required. She deserves a raise. I pray your company give her the compensation She deserves.
