So this location used to house Sauce, which was my favorite burger place in Pittsburgh. It closed up a few years ago. Miss those amazing waygu burgers and other goodies.
I’ve been wanting to check this place out. This is on Washington Ave in Bridgeville, which I assume is the same people as the Baum Blvd location and the name, sign and decor are identical/similar.
The reviews are amazing because the place is, well, amazing.
Starting with the mango lassie smoothies, to the gobi Manchurian (fried cauliflower in a tangy soy based sauce) to the onion naan (was torn between garlic and onion. I should have asked if I can get both?!). The onion was delicious. Perfectly crisp and flavorful. Then the lamb vindaloo medium was just as good and on point. Be advised medium is pretty spicy. Loved it. We finished sharing the Shahi Turkra which is bread fried in ghee until crispy and topped with creamy sweet condensed milk and saffron and sprinkled with cashew and almond slices. Again, desert was fantastic. The chef came out to check on us and our server also doted on us. I highly recommend Masala House!!! There are a few other locations. 3 around Pittsburgh and they may be connected to the one in Morgantown?
The chef here grinds all his spices fresh daily and you can see the kitchen from the main dining room and everything is clearly made to order. Four thumbs up.

We dined here on a recent Saturday evening for a date night. We loved our dinners and the service was amazing! My chicken vindaloo was spicy just as I ordered. Such great flavor to it! My husband loved his meal as well. We love that it is BYOB. The prices at Masala House are very reasonable, too! We will definitely return soon!

Tried here for lunch today and it didn’t disappoint! We arrived right after opening and our server was very friendly. However, it was a little too quiet and some music would have been nice. We ordered the chicken tikka masala, vegetable korma, and garlic naan. The food was flavorful and 5/10 was a great spice level. Will definitely be back!

I had the chicken vindaloo extra spicy and it was absolutely wonderful this so my favorite place to dine I always order extra to take home now!

— Update!!! I’ve been here several times since my first visit and every single time the food is absolutely amazing!!! Fair prices, the lunch special is a great way to try new things and the standard menu has a variety of northern and southern Indian delicacies! If you haven’t eaten here yet, you should get here asap! Fantastic food and friendly servers. It’s an all around win!!! I can’t wait to come back again!

We really enjoy masala house. We have been trying to to try new things we haven’t tried yet, so we are making way through the menu. The food is delicious at least what else have tried. My favorite though is definitely the chicken tikka masala. The one server down there isn’t super friendly or attentive & we have had her two times & she never gives us ice & always gives us warm pop. The other waitress we just recently had was very nice and attentive and gave us ice for our water and cold pop. But the food is very yummy!

The place sells homemade meals with a weekly pick up option. I ordered food on their site. They charged my card, and sent me a reminder on the day of delivery to come pick up. When my husband went there to pick food up they said they do not have raw materials and thus do not have food prepared. They did not refund the money either. So when I called to ask for a refund they did not send me a cancellation message or give me an ETA for the refund. When I asked them to either give me the phone to the manager or give me one of the above two, they just hung up on me. Haven’t come across an outright scam like this. Beware ordering food from them!!!

Rotten Biryani Experience – Beware!

We ordered 4 biryanis (2 chicken, 2 goat) from Masala House Indian Bistro (Bridgeville, PA) for $83.46—all of them were completely rotten. The stench was so vile it reminded me of a dead animal on the road, and I immediately vomited. Hours later, I can still recall the disgusting smell.

We picked the order on our way home, and by the time we opened it, it was already spoiled. When we called, the restaurant refused to acknowledge it and treated us like liars trying to scam a refund.

We even recorded ourselves throwing the food away. This was not a mistake—it’s a serious issue of serving old, unsafe food. I normally never write reviews, but after seeing many similar complaints when checking the lowest reviews, I had to warn others.

Americans, be careful—you won’t realize the scam until it’s too late. Avoid this restaurant at all costs.

A delightful place to eat. The food was excellent, portion sizes were generous, and the staff were lovely. My daughter (8) and I ate early on Saturday night. It wasn’t crowded and the service was quick for what we ordered. The kids meal of Chicken and Rice, which is like a deconstructed Tikka Masala, was a great way for kids to have control over the flavors. My chicken biryani was amazing and the Naan bread was delicious!

By far our favorite Indian restaurant this side of the city. The food had such great flavors and depth to the spices. The service was great and the restaurant was cozy. We had the Samosa Chaat, Goat Chettinad, Lamb Korma, Naan, Roti and Rasmalai and every single item was delicious. The lab and goat were tender. We also ordered a spiced lemonade which had a weirdly addicting flavor and was sooo good. We can’t wait to go back and try more!

Edited to add pics from our most recent visit: Samosas, Curry Goat, Saag Lamb, Jelabi and Garlic Naan. All so so so delicious!

Mar 2025 — Had another chance to come here with three people. While the staff was much better, the beginning was not auspicious! We asked for water, sweet Lassi’ and Chicken 65. The Lassis were not good. They were very watery and just not right. One of our party asked for a Mango Lassi and was served Mango syrup. The Chicken 65 came out in a very alarming red color (see photograph). Now, we’ve had Chicken 65 in many restaurants and it’s never been this color – also, it’s always crunchy – this one was not. By now, we are getting quite nervous about where this meal is going!!!

At this point, we asked our waitress for our waters. She had apparently forgot our request. She brought it out promptly.

Our three main dishes came out soon thereafter and all our doubts were erased. We got the Chef special fish, chicken Gujarat, and Dal. All at a medium spice level. The chicken was he spiciest and the Dal the least spicy. All were gloriously spiced and flavorful. The aromas were exquisite and each was saucy enough that lots of Basmati rice was needed to absorb all the goodness. We also got a couple of Naans to help in the meal.

The meals were so filling that we only did justice to less than half the food provided and took most of it home to enjoy on another day.

Jun 2024 While open for over a year now, and with us loving Indian food, we’ve not been able to find another couple (or more) to come out and try them out, until now. This was our loss as we found out on our recent visit as the food is probably the most flavorful in the South Hills! Speaking with the owner/chef, he stated that he grinds his own spices daily and that accounts for the profusion of flavors. I think there is more than that involved – like his obvious skill in pulling the dishes together, but I will not argue with him.

The four of us tried a couple of their appetizers and three of the entrees. The absolute standout was the Lamb Karahi which was incredibly tender and flavorful. That is not to say that the eggplant dish and the Saag Paneer were poor – far from it – they were both good. It’s just that the lamb was exceptionally good! The appetizers and the breads were also good and the dipping sauce that came with them appeared to be a mixture of the standard Tamarind and Mint chutneys which made for a more interesting take on them – especially as it was a thinner mix than we’ve had at most other Indian restaurants. We also tried the sweet Lassi and it was also superb – thick, sweet and indulgent.

There is an area that needs improvement though: the waitress. She seemed completely disinterested or distracted. We had barely sat down before she wanted to know what our order was. We had not even opened the menu, for heaven’s sake! The place was not busy – there were only two or three other parties throughout our meal, so we were able to observe operations – especially since the kitchen is off the side of the bar. We could see the cook working away and food was being prepared quickly and efficiently. Once we got our appetizers, we told the waitress we were ready to order our entrees and she said OK and walked away. We thought she was going to get her ordering device. However, she did not come back but instead went behind the bar and started wrapping cutlery in napkins and packaged food for takeout orders, answered the phones, and did other things. Once we finished our appetizers, we tried flagging her down but she never came our way, or even looked our way. It took some time until we got her attention. We finally managed, gave her our order, and watched as the cook prepared it (quickly and efficiently). We really enjoyed the food and then waited again to capture her attention to get our bill.

Signs on the restaurant tell you that they have an all-you-can-eat lunch buffet. Our bill was not very expensive and we saw many other dishes that we wanted to try. Aside from the lackadaisical waitress, this gem of a restaurant definitely deserves to be visited again, and we will definitely do so!
