The idlis were soft, light, and perfectly paired with the chutneys and sambar. The cheese masala dosa was another highlight — crispy on the outside, filled generously, and bursting with taste. Every item felt freshly prepared and served hot, which made the overall meal very satisfying
Our server, Gokul, added to the good experience with his polite and attentive service. He ensured we were comfortable and even helped us with suggestions from the menu.
Overall, Jayalaxmi turned out to be a great breakfast spot in downtown Kitchener. Definitely worth visiting for anyone craving authentic South Indian flavors.
This was my first time trying a South Indian restaurant in Canada, and Jaya Lakshmi in Kitchener did not disappoint. First off, they have free parking, which is always a plus.
The food came out super fast – we got everything within 5 to 8 minutes of ordering. I went with the Mysore Mumbai Masala Dosa based on the server’s suggestion, and it was so flavourful and filling. I also tried the Mango Lassi (not on the menu, but I saw it on Google reviews) – and I’m glad I asked for it! It was really creamy and sweet, just how I like it.
We also ordered the Sambhar Mini Idlis – 14 pieces dunked in warm sambhar, and they were honestly so comforting. I ended the meal with their Rava Halwa, which had this unique pineapple twist. It was definitely different – a little too sweet for my liking, but I’d never imagined that combo before, so it was cool to try something new.
Also, a special shoutout to the server call button on each table – such a smart touch! No more awkwardly trying to get someone’s attention. If you’re craving some authentic South Indian flavours, this place is 100% worth checking out!!
Seems like understaffed when we visited.
Lil loud music.
The dosa was good, and the chutney was good too. But again quantity is not sufficient..
There was a delay in getting our orders.
Unfortunately, the Kitchener location didn’t quite meet the same expectations. The food was average, and to be very frank, the taste and authenticity weren’t consistent with what we had experienced before. While the service was decent, it just didn’t feel worth the price for us this time.
Overall, it’s okay if you’re nearby and want to try, but if you’ve tasted their food in Brantford before, you might feel a noticeable difference
Soumya was kind and sweet and made our experience.
