Grubstake Diner is an American late-night diner that has stood the test of time. We are an SF original serving up breakfast, burgers, steaks, and shakes all night long. We were featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives with Guy Fieri! “One of the most unique diners that you’ll come across in California.” -Guy Fieri We’re proud to serve the historic San Francisco Polk-Gulch neighborhood. I like how they want the customers to pay first for the food, the service was good and explained what happened before when the customers dip out without paying. The new ruler was good and lot of people were there so definitely recommend this spot. I didn’t know how popular it is.

Great place because it’s open late. American comfort food hits the spot after a night out. Breakfast, burger or fries. Good steak and eggs. Good food, good service. I was an Uber driver at night for many years. I picked up and dropped off many from this restaurant but never tried it. Finally, after a concert we went here. Now I understand and will be back.

Came here after a late night out and I personally love this place. The food is amazing but one confusion i have is the price and portion of the side. I ordered a burger, then added a side of onion rings for $8.50. The price is fine but when I received the food I was shocked by how small the onion rings portion is. Don’t play with me with onion rings. If I pay $8.50 for onion rings, they better not be 7-8 pieces. Other than that, it is a solid diner.

Great experience at this restaurant. The standout dishes were the burger and loaded wedges, which were cooked to perfection, and the cookies and cream milk shake, which was creamy and delicious. The only downside was that we had to pay upfront, but this did not significantly impact our enjoyment of the restaurant. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant for its great food and service.

We ordered online and intentionally split the order into two checks, and tips were paid on both. Despite this, our server came to the table saying only one tip had been paid and spoke to us in a rude and confrontational way.
We were having a great night until that interaction, which completely changed the mood. If there was an issue with how the system showed the checks or tips, it should have been handled professionally and without attitude. Disappointing experience due to the service.

I’ve always wanted to check this place out. A neat dining car with a dining room attached. Uniquely decorated. Food was OK. Had a patty melt with onion rings and a coke. The bill came to $38!! Way overpriced for standard diner fare. I came in early, about 8:30 ish. There was one other customer in the whole restaurant. Not once did the waiter stop by to see if I needed a refill or if the food was ok. He was constantly walking by me to hand out door dash orders. I might as well been invisible. One and done for me .

We had a cramped itinerary for SF, and we could only pop into Grubstake for a while. We ordered the New York Steak, well done to share.
