We were searching for a cute, classy bar with great happy hour deals on a Saturday afternoon when we stumbled upon The Owl Bar — and what a delightful discovery it was! Tucked inside the historic Belvedere, this bar is truly a step back in time.

We quickly learned that The Owl Bar has hosted countless celebrities, names like Sarah Jessica Parker, Al Pacino, Danny DeVito, and many more have all dined or sipped here. They have also hosted well-known performers, musicians, and even political figures over the decades. Hearing stories from the knowledgeable Brian (our bartender) made the experience even more fascinating.

Their happy hour menu offered excellent deals on both food and drinks. I ordered a margarita and wings, while our friends enjoyed their cocktails and a pretzel. We were tempted to try the brick oven pizza — they have a real wood-fired oven installed after the remodel. Except, we had dinner reservations later that evening. Next time, it’s definitely on our list!

The atmosphere is nothing short of stunning. Stained glass, vintage decor, and a dark, intimate setting create a warm and elegant vibe. My favorite touch? The zebra-print booth seating — a bold and unexpected detail that gives the space real character.

Service was top-notch from start to finish. The staff was organized, friendly, and efficient — no wait time, quick cleanup, and plenty of attention to detail.

It’s bittersweet that the Belvedere no longer operates as a hotel, but we learned that many of the rooms have been converted into private condos. The building still hosts events and weddings in its gorgeous ballrooms, which you can even tour on weekends.

If you’re looking for a place that blends rich history, atmosphere, and quality service, The Owl Bar is an absolute must-visit. Highly recommend!

The Belvedere first opened in winter over a century ago, on December 14, 1903.

Hotel Belvedere, as it was originally named, played host to some of the most famous and influential people alive.

Its opening was the social event of the season attended by leaders of art, fashion, industry and finance, gangsters and detectives, developers and financiers, royalty and presidents, movie stars and sports heroes were drawn to its doorsteps.

They didnt seem too busy tonight when we got there. Service was somehow still awful – we had to flag down a server to find our server because we were sitting for like 15mins without our drinks. Food was sub-par at best. I had the braised short-rib – tasted like there was no seasoning or love put into it. Mashed potatoes were clumpy and had chunks of potatoes still in there. They got my wife’s order mixed up (shrimp when she ordered chicken) – tried to charge us for a drink they made wrong and had to remake. The fish for the Fish and Chips tasted like it came out of a bag, got tossed in some flour and chucked in a deep fryer.
Probably the only reason I may go back is for the Oaxaca Old Fashioned – that 1 drink was at least a 4/5.
My mom got a burger and said it had nothing going for it.
Honestly I would not recommend this place for the food. But the drinks and atmosphere (and location) seem to be keeping them in business.

Cool vives but the food was mid. The fries were soggy and the drink was pedestrian. I think I had some play on a martini that was too sweet. The waitress was very nice and courteous.

I have such great respect and gratitude for the level of personalization and attentiveness i was given. Definitely a place I will frequent when in bmore…. keep up the OUTSTANDING customer service!! U are of quality and that brings about a customer of consistency…. Thank you again!!!

Brunch on Saturday—we were the first one there! Dark and rustic vibes, super cool. Just a little empty. Got the baked brie and truffle burger with house fries! Friends got biscuits (gravy was delicious) and belvedere breakfast without meat. Everything came out fresh and hot, and portions were generous! This place pleasantly surprised us! Would come again to try the duck fat fries.

The entrance to get to this bar is absolutely stunning – the neon sign announcing the hotel outside – the magnificent flower bouquet (fake, but it looks great!) and then a hallway where you can read the history and see the celebrities that have graced the bar.

Not this bar though…. I hope.

Because while perfectly polite a discerning patron would find the service lacking.

The martini I ordered came quite strong and quite tepid. Not blended nearly enough to keep it crisp. I was drinking room temperature gin after two sips.

Then – well meaning as it was – a bartender started going around the bar spraying cleaner right onto the bar. Not her towel or away from patrons/drinks but right in the bar, getting spray most certainly in, near, and around the drinks. A simple issue that could be fixed.

Lastly – I went on a slow Saturday apparently: last call was 9:45 with an abrupt and resounding/blaring “The Party’s Over” by Willie Nelson. Yes – it was time to go at 9:53p on a Saturday.

I just hope all those celebrities had a different experience or I fear few others will show up in the future.

It’s not a horrible place but I think the sever was overwhelmed yesterday. The Valentine’s Day menu was okay. The oysters were pretty small, but not too bad. We never got our Champagne or chocolate covered strawberry/ cherry???? I think maybe the service is usually better when there are more servers. We really felt forgotten about. Our food was bought out with pork on it after we made it clear no pork, we waited quite a while for our food and then had to wait twice as long. No apology or acknowledgement from our server and our drinks were left empty on the table and really no follow up.

The Owl Bar is Located inside the Historic Belvedere Hotel in Baltimore Maryland. Take time to look at the picture wall with all the famous people that have stayed, played or visited this place. The Owl bar is an old Speakeasy from back in the prohibition days you can still see wood and decor from the early 1900s.

Very posh but great atmosphere. High prices, but delicious. Got some good quality, flavorful and festive beer, as well as two pieces of cake. 1 was an absolute banger- the carrot cheesecake was absolutely delectable. The other was similar to a dirty taste…. And overpriced. 24.00$ for both slices. What a steal, but good. 12.45 for a chicken finger and 12 oranges. What does that tell you on a first impression?

Accessible through the hotel. Dress preppy, maybe business casual. Don’t look homeless.

Fresh area. Good food. Good beer. Can’t go wrong.
