Frankie and johnny’s restaurant was opened in 1942 by Johnny Morreale and his then brother in law Frank Gaudin. The restaurant thrived feeding hungry dock workers and merchant men who made a living working on th river. Besides the abunundant seafood prepared with care, the hallmark of this small eatery was Johnny’s warm personality and genuine love of the restaurant business. Today we continue Johnny’s mission by pursuing our one simple goal: to be the best neighborhood restaurant in New Orleans. Thank you for visiting Frankie & Johnny’s!
Cozy, dimly lit bistro specializing in fried seafood dishes, po’ boys & Cajun-Creole fare.

This is a great little hole-in-the-wall neighborhood restaurant. The food is unpretentious, but delicious. The decor is homey and casual. Service is friendly and efficient. We ordered red beans and rice, shrimp po’boy, fries with debris, stuffed artichoke, and combo fried green peppers and onions. I recommend all of these dishes.

Favorite place in all of New Orleans!! Food is amazing, the most fun vibes. And if you are lucky enough to sit in Rose’s section, you will never forget her!! This is the real NOLA.

Six stars for Mark, the star of the show. Was so welcoming, comforting, sweet; really made our visit very special. We wanted to get a taste of southern food and were not disappointed. Mark provided the southern hospitality that will make this meal a memory. Shrimp and alligator po boys were incredible, as well as the gumbos, red beans, and fried peppers.

My family and I wandered in to find what I think is probably a neighborhood jewel. It had the feel of a pub and the food was good. We had the charbroiled oysters and a cup of the gumbo. The children had chicken and grilled cheese. The artichoke appetizer wasn’t for us, but the staff removed it from my ticket no problem. The staff was also friendly with my children. Everyone was full and happy.

Poor quality food at even poorer value. This restaurant is often mentioned as a staple in New Orleans and we’ve been a number of times over the past 20 years when we visit. I have to say it has really deteriorated in quality, service, and price. After my visit today – I’m done. After waiting 30 minutes for food it was horrible. Almost $20 for red beans and rice with a mangled pork chop. Oh and they got the order wrong which I just decided to eat rather than wait another 30 minutes. My drink was weak. Couldn’t even detect the booze. Their chargrilled oysters were atrocious with undetectable oysters for the bargain of over $30. For an inedible meal we each ended up at about $50 per person in food. I’m not sure what has happened to this place but with all the amazing options in NOLA do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.

Will I come back? Yes. Is there room for improvement? Yes. The food was absolutely delicious. No two ways about it. The atmosphere was classic New Orleans. Scratched all the itches. It was raining on arrival and the entrance was tough for my walker toting mom to get in. The bathroom was flooded out and I had to pick between company in the bathroom stalls, earthworm swimming in one and the unofficial mascot of New Orleans, the roach, in the other. The server got the order right but seemed to hate her job. Food there is ultimately the game cincher. If the food had been average, I probably would not return.

We stumbled upon this hidden gem looking for somewhere to eat. The feel of a neighborhood pub with delicious food. Our waitress, Terry was a doll. My husband and I had the special of the day Fried Catfish with shrimp maque choux. Highly recommend it.

Rose, the most amazing hostess I’ve ever had, treats you like family the second you walk in the door, making the experience beyond incredible. I wish I could give them more stars!!
We will be back next month for Mardi Gras! Thank you guys!

What a great spot. A bit off the beaten path and well worth the drive. We had 9 in our group and they accomodated us quite well. The chargrill oysters were fantastic. We were there on Monday so I had to have the red beans and rice. It was excellent with the smoked sausage. The shrimp and beef po’boys were quite tasty. As were the fries with debris and the combo onion rings and green peppers. This place was recommended by our friends that used to live in NOLA and they were right on the money. Wish it were closer to home.

This place was so casual and fun! I loved the atmosphere, and the restaurant was surprisingly big inside. They were playing Halloween music, and the staff were in costumes. Our waitress was an absolute doll, so friendly and easy to talk to. We ordered the fried onion and peppers, and LET ME TELL YOU!! The fried peppers were so dang good!! As was the red beans and rice. I can’t recommend this place enough.
