Reviews
I literally just went to the Nottingham location two weeks ago. Everything was amazing. Tonight we picked up from this location and it does not even seem like el salto. If my husband told me he went to another restaurant I’d believe him.
First I ordered a LARGE cheese dip, which was $10… two weeks ago I got a cup that was twice the size of the one I got tonight. I called them to make sure they didn’t give me the wrong size and the manager said nope, that IS the large size. I’m sorry but this small of a cup of cheese for $10 is ridiculous. And why was it double the size last week at a different location? The reason I ordered it again was because I thought I was going to get the same size that I got two weeks ago. This was not enough for all of the people who were eating.
Then the chips were not the same. They taste like the yellow corn bagged chips that you get from the movie theater, not house made tortilla chips. They were thick, stale and had no salt on them. Truly they were so stale they were inedible. I paid $10 for an extra bag of chips and salsa, and feel like that’s another $10 wasted. These are not the same chips I’ve been eating for years.
The rice and beans were in the same container as the lettuce, guacamole etc. The “salad” toppings have always been in a separate small box whenever I order. I am allergic to avocado and wasn’t able to eat any rice and beans because the juices from the salad made them disgustingly soggy. I get the guacamole for my husband and it’s always been in a box with just the lettuce, guacamole and sour cream. My husband tried to eat the rice and beans but they were disgusting because the salad made everything in that box wet and lettuce flavored.
I got fajitas and they were good, but everything else I am completely disappointed in. I don’t know if el salto is going downhill and cheaping out, or if it’s just this location…
After 32 years of getting El Salto at least 10 times a year, I will not be returning to this location. Completely disappointed especially for the price.
I will say the woman I spoke to on the phone to order and when I called back about the cheese sauce was incredibly kind, apologetic, and sweet, she did her job perfectly. Thank you for the good service.
We’re still exploring food in the area, and came here on recommendation from some folks in Towson. It’s a bit of a busy spot, but has plenty of seating and staff that can handle the bustle.
Noise level here is a little loud. Come here to have a good time, not a quiet night out.
I had the carne asada plate; Autumn has carne asada tacos. Flavorful, but…missing something. Still searching for that truly authentic, Mexicali-class flavor here, but sadly it was a miss. Not to say the food was not good — it just wasn’t what we were hoping for.
Overall: ★★★★☆
Pretty good and filling as well
The selection of the menu was quite numerous, many options to choose from. My mom unfortunately took quite some time to make a pick so we had to ask the server to come back later twice. So it was kinda funny on the second ask we had to wait like 10 to 15mins for them to come back. Not really their fault, but we really had to find and flag them down.
The food was great. The portions were plentiful. The place is really busy as the atmosphere.
I enjoy that they have the “El Salto” version of any of the foods on their menu, which makes picking a bit easier for me.
I’d recommend this place and I would come back if in the area.
I noticed a few low reviews from a lot of carry out customers and just like they can voice their opinion here so can I…stop expecting restaurant food to be just as decent when you order out first of all this place is like many other great places you have to dine in to get hot fresh food. Stop blaming the restaurant for bad judgment.
Second if this restaurant is listed on a pet friendly site it’s your responsibility to call and confirm never have I known many places to allow pets due to health and safety reasons especially the food and health department would agree.
If you don’t like the food go elsewhere it’s that simple not everyone has the same pallets.
Once we were seated, we looked over the menu. I decided on the Fajitas quesdilla since I like quesdillas and thought this was a better choice for me. Hubby ordered some shrimp and scallops dish that came with rice and flour tortillas, plus a side of sour cream. Now here is my reason for the less stars, the wait in between ordering food or drinks were beyond 5 to 10 minutes increment window. I asked for sweetened ice tea and instead was served unsweetened, but no biggie I just iced rhe Splenda that was on the table. But our server needs to really work on listening to the customer because not only did I order sweetened iced tea, but the side of sour cream to go with my meal which I had to ask the male server who brought our food to our table. I love a good party, but the birthday celebration that was being held with several children was too loud to bear while trying to enjoybour meal.
I like the new menu, but they could use to upgrade the place.
