Best customer service rendered by Victor Morales. Food quality is superb! The idlis are super soft, coconut chutney is very fresh, and the filter coffee and chai are also very good- strong and flavorful! What not to like about place? Great food, great service and great prices. Many celebrities have walked through the doors of this unassuming cafe!

Overall this is a very good South Indian veg restaurant and if you are missing that taste of South India you will get it here. I’ve been here quite a few times and it always satisfies my cravings. They have an a la carte menu and a buffet. I used to get a la carte but just go for buffet now, which includes all the things that I want from the a la carte. With the buffet you get a dosa which is a nice touch. The menu items which I particularly enjoy are the rasam, idli, vada, and sambar. I get multiple servings and can’t get enough. The dessert is very good too. Also to highlight I’m impressed with the service as well. The servers are all very kind and attentive.

Nut allergy warning: When I expressed a nut allergy, it was indicated that they could handle it with no issues with the Thali. I did have some concerns with a few dishes but it was hard to tell if it was a lot of spice or sesame, which can also trigger a light reaction. I’d be a bit careful but overall, I had a good meal.
Time-to-Food: ~12 minutes
We came for early dinner around 4:30PM and it was not that busy, though it got busier later in the evening. The restaurant layout is a mix of booths and open tables, pretty suitable for large parties.
I will preface by saying that I am not at all familiar with Indian cuisine. I rarely eat it because I grew up thinking that Indian food had a lot of nuts. Only partially true (kind of a gamble on things).
I ordered the Royal South Indian Thali and a Masala Chai. First, everyone was served a spicy soup-like dish that was a great start to the meal.
The Royal South Indian Thali was massive. I got some slightly different sides than my friend that ordered the same, perhaps because of the nut allergy. The curries/sambar were great with the rice and roti and the vegetables were delicious. I thought that the Halwa was my favorite dessert. The yogurt rice was more of an acquired taste (I was advised to mix it with the pickled spices, which I am not usually a fan of), as was the salted lassi. Others enjoyed them more than I did, but I was delighted to finish my meal with the masala chai.
There is a small upcharge for paying with a credit card.
Overall, pretty solid vegetarian cuisine and I’d definitely come back for some authentic food. One of my friends has been going here for over 10 years, so it definitely came recommended!

I heard good things about this place and overall wasn’t anything special. Overpriced for what it’s worth. The dosas with the potato filling and spicy curry were the highlight of the meal. Maybe I should’ve ordered a la carte instead of doing the buffet but overall I walked away feeling like I should’ve just gone somewhere else with meat options at least if not tastier!

This restaurant stands out with its food quality, food taste authenticity, to-go packaging material quality, interior ambience, service quality.
Serving staff is uniformed, no illegal student workers..
Quite rare that both south and North Indian dishes have authentic taste.
If only the restroom could be renovated/modernized. It’s in a decent state but since everything else is excellent, restroom must be too.

Udipi Cafe in Hillcroft is a lovely place to indulge in South Indian food specially from the Udipi Mangalore region. They have delicacies such as Mangalore bhajji, buns , jackfruit curry along with host of dosas and chaats. The ambience is nice and service is good. The prices are on the higher side for some items. But overall it’s a nice place to visit when you crave South Indian food.

We love Udipi Cafe, the food and atmosphere just takes you back to the India. That warmth, and pleasant feeling as if you are at your home with your family and enjoying the delicious food. The menu provides the variety of food options, also the weekend buffet gives you an option where you can try several different dishes at fair price. One of the best Pure Veg restaurants in Houston, definitely recommend.
