I’ve been wanting to try this place for awhile, every time I pass by it when I’m in town. My review is a little mixed – I got two breakfast tacos to go. Service was great. The hostess who took my order was really friendly and my order came out quickly. Breakfast taco #1 was a potato and egg and it was perfect. The tortilla was great and the ingredients were nice, hot, and flavorful. I loved the red salsa – it had a nice kick to it. Breakfast taco #2 was a bit of a let down. It was a bean and cheese taco. The beans and cheese were cold. The cheese wasn’t even melted. I would go back, but likely not get bean and cheese again.

I recently tried the pastor plate, and it delivered big on both flavor and presentation. That said, you really can’t go wrong with any of their tacos. If you ask, they’ll bring out three different salsas, which is a nice bonus. While some mention the wait, the staff seemed organized and hardworking, and it’s great that they’re fully bilingual—it makes coming here with mixed-language groups easy. The space itself was spotless, thoughtfully decorated, and had a welcoming, comfortable vibe.

My plate was an inspiration from New Mexico. Anytime you see the eggs on them. That’s what that is, she loved hers. The salsa was a little hotter than most people’s. We loved it, but just to warn you.
The queso was good, just could have used a fancier better cheese, our meals were excellent. The rest of the items were great. Waitress was sweet in and attentive. The building was just super cool and all you gotta do is drive through downtown Kyle, and at the end of it… it’s right there on the corner on the right

Was hungry for barbacoa and a friend recommended this place so we tried it. We got seated pretty fast, and were impressed with the menu. My wife ordered the chorizo con huevo plate and I ordered the barbacoa plate.

The dishes came out super fast, which worried me a little. As I suspected the food was warm enough not to be cold, but the eggs were cooked well. I saw the barbacoa and it looked really mushy and greasy. The tortillas were also just warm enough to be soft.

My wife enjoyed her chorizo con huevo but it was just standard according to her. We both agreed that the potatoes are just ok, and at least they were cooked thru, but they were slightly warm, and not crispy at all. The beans were her favorite part of the plate. Well seasoned and good flavor.

My barbacoa has a huge chunk of either fat or cow tongue skin. It was enough for me to ask for a little more, but only after I waved down someone to ask. They looked confused but said ok. When the barbacoa was delivered, it was on a coffee dish and 1/3 of that was mushy fat.

When the bill came they added a side of barbacoa for 3.99. so a coffee dish of barbacoa with 1/3 fat is 3.99.

I paid the bill but did not tip. No one ever asked how our food was, and when I asked for a little more barbacoa I was charged 4 bucks for two forks worth of meat with 1/3 of that being straight up fat.

Disappointed is the only way to describe our time at Vaqueros.

My family has been coming here for years, sometimes a couple times per week! Always had great service, great food and great prices! Lately that has changed… food quality has gone down… crunchy undercooked rice, wrong orders, longer wait times, etc. They now charge you for a refill of chips and salsa! We had a party of 4 and went through the first chips and salsa quickly and we sat for a ridiculously long time waiting for our waitress to come over so we could ask for more, and when the kitchen staff brought our food out we asked him for more and he got the waitress… thats when we were told there’s a charge for more chips and salsa! What?! My rice was crunchy, my order was wrong and we waited forever for service. They also won’t seat you unless your whole group is there… even if you want to sit and order appetizers and drinks while you wait for the last of your group. They are losing out on money with that policy. I guess its time to find another favorite Mexican restaurant to go to, which is a shame because nobody has salsa quite like vaqueros. Truly disappointed.

This was our second time visiting and the food is always great. It looks like they have a great ambiance at night with live music so would have to come try. We had the vaqueros breakfast plate and the chilaquiles. We enjoyed it and more with their home made corn tortillas. Well recommended

Wow! My recent visit to Los Vaqueros Cafe & Grill was an absolute revelation. This place serves up some of the most authentic and delicious Tex-Mex I’ve had in a long time. The moment you walk in, you know you’re in for a treat.
I had to try a little bit of everything. The menudo was a standout—rich, spicy, and loaded with tender tripe and hominy. It’s the kind of dish that makes you feel at home. The carne guisada was another highlight; the meat was fork-tender and the gravy had a depth of flavor that can only come from a well-loved family recipe. And don’t sleep on the breakfast plates! My huevos rancheros were cooked to perfection, with a savory ranchero sauce that was simply divine.
If you’re tired of generic chain restaurants and want to experience true, authentic flavors, put Los Vaqueros at the top of your list. This is the real deal.

Los Vaqueros in Kyle absolutely delivered. We ordered the enchiladas with chili sauce, the sour cream enchiladas, and the fajitas — and every single dish was spot-on. The chili-sauce enchiladas had that perfect kick without being overpowering, the sour cream enchiladas were rich and comforting, and the fajitas came out sizzling with tons of flavor. Classic, top-notch Tex-Mex done right. Definitely a place we’ll be coming back to.

Great food, great service! It really is a hidden gem! We live in Buda and were looking for a local Mexican food spot close by that has liquor. Gambling and made the drive here and surely didn’t disappoint! The queso, and our entrees were delicious. The margarita flight is to die for, great flavor! The cocktail price was very reasonable, and overall price tag is representing what Kyle is supposed to be. So many chains and restaurants around putting Austin price and this ain’t it. I found out they are doing breakfast as well so might go back for different vibes. This is the best Mexican restaurant in the south that we have tried so far! My only suggestion to the owner is to open this restaurant abit later than 9 pm on a Saturday. Would love to stay for a watch game or something with friends, honestly so muchhh potential with plenty seats, good music and giant parking lot in Kyle suburb. We will be back for sure!
