I stopped by Le Pain Quotidien in Washington, DC for breakfast, looking for something freshly baked and simple. The café has a calm, rustic atmosphere with natural lighting and a relaxed setup that makes it easy to enjoy a slow morning.

I ordered the scrambled eggs on croissant with smoked salmon and avocado, served with a small side salad. The croissant was warm and flaky, the eggs soft and seasoned nicely, and the smoked salmon and avocado added a rich, fresh balance. Everything tasted fresh and well-prepared without feeling heavy. The service was courteous and efficient, and the overall experience was pleasant and unpretentious.

A good spot for a quiet breakfast or light brunch in the city fresh food, good coffee, and a comfortable atmosphere

Had a totally different lunch plan… until a sandwich board seduced me. I was strolling through Penn Quarter when Le Pain Quotidien’s sign for a crookie (yes, a chocolate-chip-cookie-meets-croissant situation) stopped me in my tracks. The irony is that I didn’t even order it this time!

I stepped inside “just to peek” at the bakery case, which was showing off an everything croissant, a pear-ginger bread, and a few other temptations; and somehow found myself browsing the full menu. One look at the everything-croissant egg sandwich with Gruyère and my fate was sealed.

It arrived with a simple green salad and honestly… it hit every note: warm, cheesy, flaky, savory. Pure comfort.

For dessert, I was enticed by their passion fruit tart. It was a tropical dream, bright, tangy with a velvety custard that makes you pause just to appreciate the moment.

The ambience at LPQ is relaxed and comfy, which makes it perfect for a meeting, getting work done, or grabbing a bite between adventures. There’s indoor and outdoor seating (weather permitting), and a cute little market corner with cookbooks and spreads if you love a good take-home treat.

We stumbled onto this place after leaving Ford’s Theatre. We ordered a vanilla latte, a waffle, and a egg & avocado sandwich. The price was great for portion sizes and we could tell everything was made from scratch! Do yourself a favor and order the bacon as well.

Me and my friends came here to reconnect after some time. We get here and get no welcome, just asked how many there are of us. We answer 7, and think nothing of that interaction as we sit down. While we all are ordering our male waiter was being extremely disrespectful when we would ask questions and he was scoffing at us. He spoke about us to other workers behind our back and handed us cold, hard pastries. Mine was so rubbery and tough that it cut open my mouth. We each payed SEVEN DOLLARS for two teaspoons of coffee. I was so disappointed because I come from a low income household and cannot afford nice things. I wanted to treat my friends, but instead WE were the ones who were treated….treated horribly! We are, of course, still tipping because we are good people but they best believe it’s bare minimum.

A warm, cozy and cabin style atmosphere let down by the bland food.

– Had a hot chocolate on a cold morning. Absolutely horrible. What I got is some chocolate and a bowl of not warm skim milk? How can someone make hot chocolate complicated and bad?
– The egg, cheddar and avocado sandwich was absolutely bland. Dry bread, fried egg, slice of avacado with some green salad. While salad was ok, sandwich was quite underwhelming.
– The saving grace was Belgian waffle. What lacks in quantity makes it in taste. Aptly sweet with great butter cream and fruits.

We really enjoyed our breakfast here! The almond croissant was flaky and delicious. But the real winner was the French baguette with salmon. The bread had the perfect crunch, the salmon was super fresh, and the butter-dill sauce tied everything together beautifully.

Simple ingredients, thoughtfully done. A great spot to start the day on a delicious note!

I absolutely enjoyed my visit at Le Pain Quotidien! The inside of the cafe is absolutely splendid. I loved how it was very minimalistic. I ordered the German chocolate crookie, it was amazing! They do not skimp on the cookie! I would definitely recommend stopping by to grab a small bite to eat or a lunch!

Quite like their special and unique lemon tart: sweet and sour.
I order the ham croissant but I couldn’t go wrong with it. Beyond the place is luminous and well positioned at the center of DC.
Macha coffee is too creamy for me.

Ordered a latte and pain au chocolat (chocolate croissant) and latte. Service was good but not great. Food was not great compared to the exquisite French experience that is marketed and priced. The croissant may have been baked today but was pretty open inside. The latte was good, but nothing to write home about.
They obviously spent time curating the atmosphere of this place. And it’s a nice spot to eat and work.
