Visited Udupi Cafe a couple of nights ago, because my dear friend enjoys their food and recommended that we go together. She’s Indian and doesn’t like many Indian restaurants in the U.S., so when she raved about Udupi, I knew that it would be good! I love vegetarian Indian food, so I was excited about our visit!

Their Gobi Manchurian was so flavorful and tasty it made me think, “cauliflower can be as FULFILLING and SATISFYING as chicken?” Because that’s what my taste buds signaled to me, which I say as a full compliment. The vegetable samosas were also tasty, and the green sauce that supplemented them was spicy, yet it complimented the samosas’ textures.

For the main entrée, I ordered the Jaipur Paneer Dosa, while my friend ordered the Onion and Pea Uthappam. She enjoyed her Uthappam, and I also liked my Jaipur Paneer Dosa. I had never eaten or even heard of Dosa before, but she recommended it to me and I thought to myself, ‘why not try something different?’ I figured it was gonna be good since I like paneer. The only thing is that I wasn’t sure how to eat it. Fortunately for me, our server (who I assume was also the manager) showed me how to get started on eating it: break the crêpe and then pour the sauce into the filling.

Speaking of which, the manager was sweet and very hospitable! He asked us our names and who we were, plus he even gave us a free mango lassi at the end! My friend let me have it, and so I sipped it on during the drive back to our places. Soothing way to conclude a meal! I’d definitely visit Udupi Cafe again and look forward to trying their Uthappam, Dal Makhani, Vada, and their other flavors of Dosa! I’ll also be suggesting it to other folks when planning future outings.

P.S. The Gulab Jamun goes so hard: I loved its texture and how well it harmonized with the sweet syrup! They carried a slight firmness, yet they were soft enough that the sweetness was really potent. And the fact that they were served HOT?! So delicious and hands down the best gulab jamun I’ve had in my life so far.

Very delicious. We come very often and it never disappoints. Always warm and flavorful. I personally love the dosa which was warm and crispy. We got the gajar halwa, it was warm and comforting. My daughter took a bite so that’s why the picture looks like that. No wait time and the food arrived very quickly, 8-15 minutes

Placed an order of medhu vada and potato bonda from this restaurant and had the worst experience ever. The coconut chutney had lots of water and vada’s are not fresh too. Same conditon with sambar as well. Potato bonda was too oily and potatoes inside were not cooked properly. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant.

I want to be completely honest in my review. For someone who hasn’t been to Udupi and tried their food, this place might seem good, but I feel the quality is lacking. They could definitely improve both the quality and taste of their dishes. The Mysore dosa was decent, the puri was good, but the chole was just okay.

The Mysore Masala Dosa was nice, though not excellent. Since it’s a South Indian restaurant, I didn’t expect North Indian–style dishes to be their specialty, but we went during late lunch hours and felt like having naan and curry. Both were a bit disappointing. The naan tasted like one of those frozen packet ones, even though the staff said it was freshly made, and the curry was just okay. Also, $4.99 for two small pieces of naan felt a bit pricey. The South Indian items might be better, so I’d recommend sticking to those.

I’ve been visiting Udupi for over nine years, and their food quality has been consistently good. My go-to order is chapathi with aloo or gobi curry. My daughter usually alternates between chapathi, poori, and idli, all of which she enjoys. My wife prefers the plain rava dosa and also likes their pongal and upma.

I also enjoy their lunch thali, which is very satisfying.

Chandra, the owner, is always courteous and welcoming.

Overall, it’s a simple, low-key vegetarian South Indian restaurant that delivers consistent, comforting food.

I would say don’t bother about anything except food. People, place, ambiance, and location all can be easily ignored because as soon as you have their dosa or idli or samosa or vada or sambar or tomato rice or thali you will forget everything else. I’ve know this place for past 8+ years and not once I’ve felt their taste is off. It tastes the same as it did 8 years ago. It might remind you of those days back in India where you use to usually go for a Sunday morning breakfast. I would rate 10 out of 5 for the food.

This is one of the finest authentic vegetarian restaurants in Cary,NC. The culinary experience is exceptional, and the quality of the food is consistently praised. However, there is room for improvement in the area of customer service. Ample parking is available for patrons. In conclusion, aside from the customer service aspect, this restaurant stands out as one of the premier vegetarian dining options in the area.

Good indian vegetarian restaurant in the cary area. Got channa masala, podi dosa, spring dosa , rava masala dosa, medu vada and Gobi 65. All of them were very good. The chaana masala was a little bit on the sweeter side. The Gobi 65 and medu vada are a must try here.

Great place with awesome food. This place is all vegetarian. Service was quick, and the ordered items arrived with almost no wait. Gobi Manchurian was awesome but the quantity was low. Veg noodles were delicious as well. Bisibele bhath was pretty normal but extremely hot. Spring roll was ok. Rava masala dosa was awesome. And paper dosa was big (as it should be)
