good bar, less dive-y than it used to be but prices are still plenty reasonable and they have decent food. also one of the only places in town where you can find Labatt on tap which is nice. lots of good bands and DJs here regularly too, and you don’t have to pay cover to access the main bar area (only if you want to go into the venue part). definitely one of the better spots in the area.

I went for open mic on Friday nights! It was pretty chill. The bar area is smaller than most but still satisfied with the drinks. The venue for open mic was well closed off from general bar chatter, though there was frequent interruptions from servers going from the main floor to the kitchen. So less than ideal conditions but Sidney the host was top notch with his talent and equipment and friendly attitude. It’s a free show and I highly recommend.

My wife and I were walking around in the cold and decided to look for a place to warm up for a bit. Mortimer’s was the only game in town. We walked in, got a little gun shy from the dive bar aesthetic of the place, but decided to try it anyway since we were freezing. Mortimer’s did not disappoint. The drinks are strong and tall, and the food is delicious. We ordered poutine and buffalo wings. Both were excellent. The poutine comes with cheese curds! These were beyond delicious. The wings were equally amazing as we opted for a dry rub with buffalo on the side, which was spot on. If you are not afraid to try out a dive bar, Mortimers is the place to go.

Ended up in town for a conference and visited the sculpture gardens and market with 2 colleagues.
We were hungry and ended up here, not realizing it was a dive bar until we walked in.
We sat down and waited for menus for 5-10 minutes then were told from behind the bar that we have to get our own menus (which is fine, just tell us when we walked by you). We had to help ourselves to water from a Gatorade style portable dispenser near the front door.
I had concerns at this point but we ordered.. I had the fried walleye fish sandwich with Creole tots.
I was pleasantly surprised when a huge plate came out with large pieces of crispy fish on the sandwich and a mountain of tots.
The sandwich was tasty, bread and veggies were fresh and the tots perfectly crispy and seasoned.
I would give food 4 stars and 1 for service and atmosphere.

People are lovely, food is not, and it’s dark and sad inside – I would not come back. I came because I arrived for a 2pm meeting at noon, the original time. I needed somewhere to go to wait it out! Popped in here based on reviews and pictures. Bartender was a friendly guy and I asked for the brunch menu. Moved to a table once I got my food. Got the chicken and waffles. HORRIBLE DECISION. My food came out what I assume was right away, but my waffle wasn’t warm. Not even warm enough for butter which I didn’t really get to use. Chicken wasn’t much warmer. The syrup didn’t taste like maple or sweet – it was bitter and black. I got a bit of the bourbon and lots of burnt bacon. I asked for regular syrup from my very kind waitress. Almost done when I took these pictures, but I now have a headache and a bit of a turning stomach so I won’t finish. Very disappointing for $14. Hate to waste food so I didn’t send it back, but now I’m not finishing it either. Real waste. Would not recommend, but thank you to the kind wait staff ♀️
My kind waitress disappeared maybe 20-30 minutes ago after checking in once and I haven’t seen her even wandering. Now waiting to get my bill which is also annoying. Had to ask the guy at the bar and he’s sending her out now. Definitely want to leave more and more.

Fun place to get your dance on, with some amazing DJs & musicians appearing often (Shannon Blowtorch, Sophia Eris, Jada Brown, & more). 11pm-2am is the best time to hit the floor.
Reasonably priced menu, but i haven’t tried the food yet.

I go to Mortimer’s about every couple years when there’s a show I want to attend. It’s a fabulously cozy and disarming dive bar and I really enjoy the atmosphere. I have to mention that I recently went to Mortimer’s to attend a good friend’s 40th birthday show and I met an angel.
When it came to pay the cover charge, I realized I didn’t have cash and had left my debit card at home. My friend’s band played first and I heard the first few notes blast out from behind the door. I asked a woman near me at the bar if they had cash and Venmo. Told them I needed to get in to say my friend’s band and didn’t have cash. If she could give me the cash, I can pay her on the app. She verified she had both cash and Venmo and proceeded to take two 5s out of her wallet. I pulled up the app and asked for her user name. She shook her head. “Don’t worry about it.” I said, “Well can I buy you a drink?” She took a sip and shook her head. “Go have fun,” she said.
I begged her to let me buy her a drink and she refused.
In a time where our hard-earned money doesn’t go as far as it used to with rising prices and uncertainty, this person did an astonishingly kind thing.
And I’ll always think of her when I think of Mortimer’s.

Look, I love this bar. But for the love of god, don’t take pepper spray at the door and not give it back on the way out! That’s typically a woman’s only form of protection. I would really like it back.

The vibe at Mortimer’s was not safe. The bar area itself had gang members lurking and shaking down people in the Men’s bathroom for money just for simply walking in there. The security who was on duty tonight, the night of December 6, 2025, was in on the ordeal as well, as he let the gang members roam free inside with guns concealed while checking every one else.
