Great atmosphere. Enjoyed some Chardonnay, they have many beers to choose from along with flights. Food was fresh and hot. I ordered the short ribs with pappardelle noodles . Needed to spice it up with salt and pepper, over all it was delicious and filled up the tummy. The bathroom was clean and spacious. I will be back to try something new.

On a road trip through Kansas, we decided to put down for the evening in the thriving metropolis of Hays. A quick search for dinner and a craft beer, landed us at Bella’s Diner and LB Brewing. We were impressed the second we walked in the door. The atmosphere was lively, artwork trendy and not overpowering, and servers moving around taking care of guests. We decided to sit at the bar as we often do. After driving all day, it’s a treat to watch other people hard at work, and you often strike up conversations with local people to learn more about the area you’re visiting. When it came to the food, our expectations were met 100%. As my wife and I are not spring chickens, we’re generally heading to bed when most young’ns are heading out for the evening. Nothing good happens after 9 PM anyway . I ordered an appetizer that consisted of potato(e) skins, brisket (hello), BBQ sauce, cheese, and I’m sure a few other toppings I can’t recall (getting old). My wife ordered the larger size grilled chicken salad which was fresh, loaded with typical toppings. I topped mine off with an oatmeal stout brewed in-house. I am a fan of stouts in general and would have taken a jug home with me if weren’t traveling. Fantastic meal, service, atmosphere, and conversations. We highly recommend this establishment and now I’m thinking of future road trips that take us through Hays, KS.

We had an amazing experience at Gella’s! Seren was our waiter and he was incredibly friendly and attentive. The food was outstanding, a true Kansas steakhouse experience. The steaks were on another level, perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Highly recommend this place if you want an authentic taste of Kansas!

Loved this little diner! I travelled through Hayes last week, as I do quarterly, and was interested in finding a new place to eat. Gella’s will be on my agenda every single time I come back through.

It’s right downtown – and parking is on the street – but I had no difficulty on a Thursday evening parking close by. Service was good, they seated me as a single woman at a comfortable table, and the food and brew were great! They even had 10 oz. glasses of beer (YEA!). Prices were reasonable, the bathroom and restaurant were clean.

I will definitely be back and happy to recommend Gella’s to others passing through!

This was my first trip to Gella’s, and I was not disappointed.
We drove 5 hours with the intention of eating our anniversary dinner here.
We got seated immediately, and our server, Kerstin, was there quickly to take our drink orders.
We ordered a side of Onion Rings for an appetizer, and they were huge. It was more than enough for both of us.
I ordered the Crispy Chicken Stir Fry. It was delicious. It had a huge amount of chicken, lots of veggies, and the sauce was great; not too much and not too little. The rice and sauce were a perfect ratio. So good.
My husband ordered the Blackened Mahi Mahi with Cole slaw and garlic green beans for his sides. Everything was cooked perfectly. The garlic green beans were a different take, but they were not overly salty or saucy, so we both liked them.
The atmosphere was fun with lots of space to seat people. We were there on a Thursday evening and it was very busy.
Kerstin was an excellent server with a beautiful smile, a great attitude, and knowledge on the menu.

My second trip to Gella’s. The first several years ago, started with my chase partner and I arriving in Hays after an 8-hour day of storm chasing. We were on I-70 and called them less than 5-min before they closed. They said if we could be there in 10-min, they’d leave the door open for us. We got there by our ETA and the courteous grill and wait staff served us a superb KC Strip meal, which was a perfect end to a long and disappointing day.

My second, equally as satisfying, was my wife and I driving to Hays the 376-miles from our residence to meet our daughter from DEN. The ladies had Caesar’s salad but owing to my return back home, I opted only for the 5-layer Chocolate Cake dessert. The food, just like my first visit several years ago, WAS SUPERB. The4 service was prompt, courteous and the food has spoken for itself.

I highly recommend Gella’s even if you’re just passing through. The Hays “downtown” is very nice eye candy for those of us who like late-1800’s architecture, which is perfectly preserved and the pedestrian areas in Hays were spotless. Gella’s is hidden gem in Hays and we’ll be back soon! And I will add that I marked Gella’s atmosphere as a 4 but only because it’s not type of establishment that needs cozy dark nooks as its signature look. It’s a brew pub with a large open feel that also has superb food. Nuff’ said!

Great local place to enjoy. Beer list was great… While we had a bison burger that was overcooked and the salmon bowl wasn’t very flavorful. The appetizer of the chips and dip was very good and homemade.

We will probably try again at some point when we pass through but order something different. Service was great and very good atmosphere.

We stopped here to pick up a late lunch while traveling through Kansas. I appreciated that there were gluten free options as well as other options for dietary restrictions. I had the apple BLT on gluten free bread and it was delicious. My husband had the chicken strips and our daughter chose the smoked turkey club on gf bread. We were all very pleased with the food, staff, and atmosphere. In fact, we made sure to stop here for dinner on our way back home! On the return trip, I chose the pork chop with the agave carrots and and mashed potatoes, and it was just as delicious. My people also ordered the French toast brûlée and it looked amazing. The portions are more than generous and worth every reasonable penny. My only wish is for gf/df desserts one day! Eating with dietary restrictions on the road is very difficult, but Gella’s was beyond refreshing!

The beer makes this place worth the stop. Great selection on tap and to take home. The bar area has nice ambiance and energy. The food is sub-par. The chicken stir fry tastes like a salt lick. I could not finish it. The bison burger was just ok and the staff forgot to include the side salad, which we paid extra for. We’d come back to enjoy beer but we don’t recommend the food. Hoping they improve the food as the place has very good potential to be a great all around neighborhood restaurant and bar.

Really nice place. I honestly wasn’t expecting it to be that nice. It’s probably 10 or 15 minutes off i70, but definitely worth the detour. The place is HUGE. They did a great job converting the old building and bringing it back to life. It could maybe use a tiny bit of attention to detail cleaning. Just some fingerprints and dust bunnies hanging around that appeared to have been there a while. Food was really good. We were in at an odd time so the servers were having to multitask with their afternoon duties, but she still did a good job.
