A lovely fine dining experience, with some uniqueness that I will remember. The menu is verbal, which is interesting! They cut the steaks in front of you, which also a nice touch. Our steak was very well cooked, even if the ribeye was a touch less tender than expected.

We will absolutely be back — and you have to get the Mac & cheese!

SOMETHING TO NOTE IS THAT A 20% GRATUITY IS INCLUDED IN THE BILL. CHECK YOUR BILL! We were not informed beforehand. Probably just an oversight, but every restaurant I’ve ever been in before informs the customer of this service charge before any orders are taken. The final bill had a extra space for gratuity, so if I had not noticed, I would have left another 20% gratuity on tip of the one that was included. (I did leave extra, because it was well deserved.) I kept thinking that a young person on a date might not be paying attention and would fall for this. It could be embarrassing.

This is the only restaurant I’ve ever been to that does not provide a viewable menu with prices for food. You will have a server, but a different person will come by to tell you what the meat/seafood choices are. They will not offer prices unless you ask. That person is the “menu.” That person will bring a ribeye slab to the table, and you can specify how many ounces you want. If you want prices, you will have to ask, right there in front of everyone at the table. It could be embarrassing if you’re on a date or are hosting other people. Personally, I think a printed menu (or at least a QR code) should be provided at the table. The prices we were charged were the same as the prices on the website, so all was well for us. We heard another older group of patrons ask about a printed menu, so it wasn’t just us. Just letting the rest of the readers know.

Another note: The city of Spartanburg imposes an extra 2% tax on purchases. Not a complaint – just a note for others.

THE REASON FOR ALL 5 STARS: I didn’t want to ding the restaurant in the ratings/algorithm. We totally enjoyed the food and service at The Peddler tonight. It’s one of the premier restaurants in Spartanburg. Mom had delicious salmon, hubbie had delectable ribeye, and I had an entree salad. The salads were so fresh! The baked potatoes were gigantic and included all the fixings. The salmon and ribeye were outstanding. Of course, the entree prices were VERY expensive, but the cocktail and wine prices were surprisingly good. (We spent $250 for 3 people.) Our server, Cory, was a delight! We highly recommend the experience. Just bring a lot of money.

We will be back in the future, knowing a little more. Thank you for a lovely experience, and thanks to the fantastic staff for putting up with me and my antics.

I hope this review will let people know what to expect.

Very nice little place but very busy. Arrived 15 minutes after opening and had a 75 minute wait. Ended up going up the street to get oysters as an appetizer and a drink while we waited. Steak was very good but wasn’t the best I’ve had at the price point. Baked potato is bland, not seasoned inside or out. Customizable salad was the highlight. So many topping options.
Service was OK. The one issue we had was we waited 20-25 minutes from our salads being brought out until they took our main course order and would have been longer if I hadn’t gotten someone’s attention. Will definitely give it another go.

I’m not sure what the Peddler Steakhouse is trying to peddle, but it certainly isn’t an upscale dining experience.

The prices here are completely unjustified for the quality of food served. To be clear, Ellie—our waitress—was very sweet and did everything she could to make our evening pleasant. None of this reflects on her. The problem is the food.

We started with the artichoke and spinach dip, which resembled a block of Velveeta thinned with water and a handful of spinach. The bread and pita served with it were equally disappointing; the pita tasted like it had been fried in oil that hasn’t been changed since the Great Depression. It brought back memories of a small-town hockey arena in rural Canada—the kind with a fry vat that sees fresh oil roughly twice a century.

The drinks followed, and they were nothing to write home about. Flat flavor, no balance, and frankly something I could replicate more successfully in five minutes at home.

We ordered the ribeye next. To their credit, the steak was the only thing all evening that tasted decent. It was seasoned well and cooked properly. Unfortunately, everything surrounding it fell flat. The mushrooms lacked creativity and tasted pickled. The onions tasted like they were skimmed off the top of French onion soup. The potato side had almost no flavor, and the shredded cheddar on top tasted like the bargain-bin grocery-store variety coated in that mysterious “sawdust” anti-caking agent. The sour cream had a gritty texture—as if thickened with arrowroot—and the butter tasted oddly reminiscent of movie-theater popcorn topping… possibly margarine.

The salad was on par with what you’d expect at a Ruby Tuesday, which is not what you hope for at these price points.

All in all, the meal felt like highway robbery for what was served. If Peddler Steakhouse is going to peddle anything at these prices, it should at least be quality.

Phenomenal Service and Experience!
From start to finish, the service at this steakhouse was absolutely phenomenal. Bri was attentive, friendly, and made sure every detail of our dining experience was perfect. Our server went above and beyond — professional, personable, and truly made us feel welcome. The food was cooked to perfection, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. You can tell they take pride in both their food and customer service. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!

The menu is all verbal; however, I found a listing online. The ribeye was custom house cut and cooked rare to perfection. It was so tender you could practically cut with a fork. The baked potato was perfectly soft and loaded with side cups of bacon bits, sour cream and cheese. The salad you select from a card with as many toppings as you wish at no additional charge. The best was the smoked oysters I selected for mine. I could have eaten a bowl full. AND the tables were made from old Singer sewing machines.

Much different from the greenville peddler… it’s alive and bright. Nonetheless, both are charming in their
own ways. Alex was such a polite and kind server. He was very attentive and knew his menu very well. He made excellent suggestions. The food was wonderful. I love my cowboy ribeye. Perfectly cooked with the steak fries that were served hot!

Visiting from out of town, 5 of us stopped in for dinner. Downtown Spartanburg is on the upswing, and the Peddler Steakhouse is part of it. Decorated beautifully. Overall, it was just OK and did not live up to our expectations. Our hostess was somewhat unaccomidaiting when we asked for a table instead of a booth, so we just pushed two tables together…. problem solved. Our servers seemed a bit pretentious in their approach and presentation. The artichoke dip and shrimp cocktail appetizers were great. The salad card was different and fun, and the salads were fresh and tasty. Four of us had ribeyes, and all were underwelmed. The salty carimal dessert was awesome. All in all, the experience was just OK. Will probably try other steak options next time.

This was our 2nd visit. My fiancé and I shared the ribeye and it was flavorless! He had the same experience on our first visit. The salad was delicious. The soufflé sweet potato and cheddar Mac and cheese were very good. Bread was fresh, hot & great butter! Jalapeño poppers just ok. The other criticism I have is that our female Server needs to talk louder and she never asked if our main dinner was ok or to our liking. For this level of a steak restaurant that should be asked right after we are finished. Obviously we were disappointed in the steak. For the prices the chef needs to step it up and servers need to be trained better. I can’t recommend eating here.

Poor service we had a party of 12 for Christmas dinner, so waiter had made his tip as soon as we sat done. No famous salad just greens on a plate. Apps were regular bar food – poppers cheese sticks spinach dip
Most sides came out luc warm
The famous steaks came out overcooked and tasted like gas, medium rare or medium is some pink not cooked all the way through to burnt. Did I say service was poor, 1560.00 was our total bill so you do the math. We had better service and food at outback last year. Please rethink eating here
