We will absolutely be back — and you have to get the Mac & cheese!
This is the only restaurant I’ve ever been to that does not provide a viewable menu with prices for food. You will have a server, but a different person will come by to tell you what the meat/seafood choices are. They will not offer prices unless you ask. That person is the “menu.” That person will bring a ribeye slab to the table, and you can specify how many ounces you want. If you want prices, you will have to ask, right there in front of everyone at the table. It could be embarrassing if you’re on a date or are hosting other people. Personally, I think a printed menu (or at least a QR code) should be provided at the table. The prices we were charged were the same as the prices on the website, so all was well for us. We heard another older group of patrons ask about a printed menu, so it wasn’t just us. Just letting the rest of the readers know.
Another note: The city of Spartanburg imposes an extra 2% tax on purchases. Not a complaint – just a note for others.
THE REASON FOR ALL 5 STARS: I didn’t want to ding the restaurant in the ratings/algorithm. We totally enjoyed the food and service at The Peddler tonight. It’s one of the premier restaurants in Spartanburg. Mom had delicious salmon, hubbie had delectable ribeye, and I had an entree salad. The salads were so fresh! The baked potatoes were gigantic and included all the fixings. The salmon and ribeye were outstanding. Of course, the entree prices were VERY expensive, but the cocktail and wine prices were surprisingly good. (We spent $250 for 3 people.) Our server, Cory, was a delight! We highly recommend the experience. Just bring a lot of money.
We will be back in the future, knowing a little more. Thank you for a lovely experience, and thanks to the fantastic staff for putting up with me and my antics.
I hope this review will let people know what to expect.
Service was OK. The one issue we had was we waited 20-25 minutes from our salads being brought out until they took our main course order and would have been longer if I hadn’t gotten someone’s attention. Will definitely give it another go.
The prices here are completely unjustified for the quality of food served. To be clear, Ellie—our waitress—was very sweet and did everything she could to make our evening pleasant. None of this reflects on her. The problem is the food.
We started with the artichoke and spinach dip, which resembled a block of Velveeta thinned with water and a handful of spinach. The bread and pita served with it were equally disappointing; the pita tasted like it had been fried in oil that hasn’t been changed since the Great Depression. It brought back memories of a small-town hockey arena in rural Canada—the kind with a fry vat that sees fresh oil roughly twice a century.
The drinks followed, and they were nothing to write home about. Flat flavor, no balance, and frankly something I could replicate more successfully in five minutes at home.
We ordered the ribeye next. To their credit, the steak was the only thing all evening that tasted decent. It was seasoned well and cooked properly. Unfortunately, everything surrounding it fell flat. The mushrooms lacked creativity and tasted pickled. The onions tasted like they were skimmed off the top of French onion soup. The potato side had almost no flavor, and the shredded cheddar on top tasted like the bargain-bin grocery-store variety coated in that mysterious “sawdust” anti-caking agent. The sour cream had a gritty texture—as if thickened with arrowroot—and the butter tasted oddly reminiscent of movie-theater popcorn topping… possibly margarine.
The salad was on par with what you’d expect at a Ruby Tuesday, which is not what you hope for at these price points.
All in all, the meal felt like highway robbery for what was served. If Peddler Steakhouse is going to peddle anything at these prices, it should at least be quality.
From start to finish, the service at this steakhouse was absolutely phenomenal. Bri was attentive, friendly, and made sure every detail of our dining experience was perfect. Our server went above and beyond — professional, personable, and truly made us feel welcome. The food was cooked to perfection, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. You can tell they take pride in both their food and customer service. Highly recommend this spot for anyone looking for an exceptional dining experience!
own ways. Alex was such a polite and kind server. He was very attentive and knew his menu very well. He made excellent suggestions. The food was wonderful. I love my cowboy ribeye. Perfectly cooked with the steak fries that were served hot!
Most sides came out luc warm
The famous steaks came out overcooked and tasted like gas, medium rare or medium is some pink not cooked all the way through to burnt. Did I say service was poor, 1560.00 was our total bill so you do the math. We had better service and food at outback last year. Please rethink eating here
