Service was great. A real local spot. I had the chicken fried steak, but I had them hold off on the gravy and instead topped it with Hollandaise. It was one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had. I love the names of the chickens who are providing the eggs for the restaurant and proudly displayed on the wall. This is the ultimate breakfast diner.

Windmill Cafe in Savage represents the best of Minnesota. It may not be flashy on the outside and you could easily pass it by but inside is a place without pretensions. The food is simple, good fare at a reasonable price. But what really makes it shine, like Minnesota, is the sense of community. A diverse array of patrons gather out of the cold to share stories, enjoy a hearty meal, and a coffee that never gets cold because a server is there immediately to top you off. Come for the food, stay for the sense of community. Don’t forget to enjoy the Hen Highlights curated by the owner with colorful biographies including each hen’s likes and dislikes .

Super great food, served hot, perfect cook. French toast, eggs, has browns, link sausage bacon were all super good. Pancakes were excellent. Coffee was hot, balanced (not acidic).
A short wait at prime time on a Saturday; they have wireless buzzers to call your table. Parking lot is a bit rustic, but it’s ok.
High recommend.

Well, from the old looking outside to the muddy dirt parking lot, I almost turned around! I’m glad I didn’t! It’s what I’d call a warm, friendly hole-in-the-wall. Great service and good food!

This place was small, not fancy, and we almost missed it!
I absolutely loved the place! The owners and family looked so happy to help you, and did all they could for you!
The food and serving size were amazing!
I would pick this place to eat before any fancy popular franchise.
It’s family, good food, old school hospitality and just a place that makes you feel like you are someone.
THANKYOU , it made my day !

We have been driving past this place for 3 weeks now and decided to stop for breakfast on our way out of town. Don’t let the building fool you. Inside is a cute little restaurant with great coffee and really good food. Nice portions sizes as well. Hubby ordered two over easy eggs, hashbrowns, sausage patties, and toast. I ordered the corned beef hash with eggs. Loved that everyone working there helped each other out.

A very welcoming diner with kind and attentive service. The food consists of generous portion sizes, fair prices, and exactly the type of cuisine you would want and expect from a small, cozy diner.

The staff is hardworking and customer-focused. There is a lot to look at and notice on the walls; and the small, hangman-type figurines in hidden locations throughout the room were fun to notice.

I’d recommend this place. I hope to be back soon.

In 933 reviews I still have yet to give 5 stars until now! A decades old and family owned establishment, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better breakfast in town. You’ll absolutely love the vintage diner feeling you get from the second you walk in the door. The service is outstanding and, personally, I enjoy eating breakfast at a counter seat. There’s limited counter seating but if you go by yourself it’s the best option and you’ll usually get a seat faster as opposed to a table. The food was outstanding! Everything was cooked perfectly and it was out pretty fast! Personally my favorite is their steak and eggs dish. They also serve very good coffee and I didn’t even have to ask for a refill which was a nice surprise, and the price I paid for everything was a good value!

From the moment you leave, you’ll already be thinking about when you want to come back! 5 star food, 5 star atmosphere and 5 star service. Take it from a local!

Exactly what you would want from a cafe that has been there since 1971. By the time I was about to take some photos of our delicious breakfast, the plates were clearly emptied of the wonderful contents that were once upon them. My daughters loved their breakfast as did my wife and I. Have driven by it for my entire adult life and made the stop today. Great service, from a warm friendly staff! Keep up the great work Windmill Cafe team.

I liked the cozy vibe of the place. The servers were very friendly. Food was amazing. Not your typical diner food. Just right portions and not too oily.
