My favorite sushi restaurant in Kansas. Everyone is always so nice here and the lunch specials are amazing deals. I usually avoid the plain salmon rolls elsewhere but the they give thick cuts here, which I appreciate.

This place is bomb! Reasonable prices, fantastic high quality sushi. Vegan/Vegetarian options . Yummy miso soup and salad too.
Great friendly, fast service. Ambient and cozy atmosphere. My only small critique is that the rice on the sushi is super skimpy. In conclusion, I highly recommend!

The service speed can vary depending on the time of day and who’s working. Their lunch specials are the big draw for me. Rolls taste yummy and can’t beat the price for fresh sushi.

There’s a quiet reverence that comes when you discover a place where every detail is cared for where food isn’t rushed, but respected. That place, for me and my wife, was Oishi Sushi Restaurant & Bar.  In Japanese, the word “oishii” (おいしい) means delicious or tasty but in the hands of a true chef, it becomes something more. At Oishi, it becomes a promise. A philosophy. And they live up to it.  From the moment we arrived, we were met with a calm warmth genuine hospitality that wasn’t forced or scripted. The staff didn’t just serve food; they welcomed us into a space they clearly took pride in. Every interaction felt personal, thoughtful, and kind. You don’t always get that. These days, good service can feel rare. But here, it’s the standard.  The sushi and crab rangoons itself were… exceptional. Prepared with the kind of precision that only comes from years of dedication, each piece was artfully crafted and impossibly fresh. The rice was tender yet firm, the fish sliced with care, and the balance of flavor perfect. You could taste the intention behind every roll. And you could feel the respect for the tradition it came from.  We often forget that a meal can be more than just sustenance. Sometimes it becomes a moment. A memory. A quiet celebration of love, life, and shared presence. That’s what this meal was.  The ambiance was equally thoughtful. Modern and serene, yet unpretentious like someone curated a peaceful pause in the middle of a loud world. We felt at home, and at peace.
My wife and I left feeling full, not just in body, but in spirit. Places like this are rare. They remind us to slow down, to savor, and to appreciate the simple beauty of something done well.  If you’re looking for sushi that honors its roots and service that honors its guests, go to Oishi. Not just for the food but for what it represents: excellence, hospitality, and quiet joy.
Oishii, indeed.

Great little place in Shawnee. I had the hot and sour soup, spicy tuna roll and the black mask roll. Service was fast and efficient. Spicy tuna could have been spicier. Black mask had no heat. Everything was good and I will return, just a bit off on the execution tonight. Still a great night.

Always an excellent stop. Never dissatisfied. The Oishi roll is soo good! We always get one of those and try a couple of new rolls as well. We also went for a friend’s birthday, and they were able to accommodate all of us without feeling like we were an imposition.

I take my reviews seriously and do not give a low star rating unless it is genuinely deserved. Please see my other reviews of Sushi from all over the world. I’m not sure why my experience is so different from the high rating this restaurant enjoys.

Oishi Sushi was a very disappointing experience. The menu is typical and has a good variety of authentic sushi and sashimi, as well as hot fusion dishes to appeal to everyone. However, the special rolls were not only half the size of a typical roll at $13, but completely underwhelming in flavour and presentation. Two special rolls were jammed on a small plate together with no thought to presentation.

The salmon sashimi was passable, but a little soft and slippery and difficult to hold with chop sticks. Fresh, firm, and cool sashimi sticks to the chop sticks. My favourite sashimi, and the star of the meal was the roe.

The green tea was also adequate but did not have that signature texture of a great Japanese tea. We asked for extra wasabi, which we did not receive, and the wasabi was very crumbly, pasty, and dry. The waiter missed 2 orders of sashimi, and we reminded him when he approached us for last menu call, 1/2 hour before the listed closing time. He graciously brought the missing sashimi, with no additional wasabi on the plate. When we pointed that out, he went to the kitchen to request some wasabi, and the request was denied because the kitchen had closed. Wasabi. How much prep would that have required?

Besides lots of sashimi, we also ordered edamame, crab ragoon, green island roll, Oishi roll, and the dragon roll.

Needless to say, we will not be returning to this restaurant.

Usually order carry out and always ask for avocado to be added into my sweet potato roll. I clearly select the add on option for it. The last two times they’ve forgotten it and still charged me, as well as forgetting my eel sauce and charging me for it. Whoever looks at the online orders has poor attention to detail. That being said, check your orders if you do carry out! Not impressed with this place anymore.

I have debated making this review due to the fact that I don’t like portraying the bad side of a restaurant like this one. My husband, our one year old and myself went here about two weeks ago because we were so indecisive about what we wanted to eat and I had mentioned this specific place that I had been wanting to try, one because most reviews were good and two because the food looks great. I am a very observant person and I noticed the behavior that was directed towards us from everyone! As soon as we walked in they greeted us but once they saw our baby one of the girls whispered “not dealing with that” while pointing and gave my daughter an unpleasant look. I know toddlers can be overstimulating, especially at restaurants and some people would rather not deal with it but there is a right way and a wrong way to express yourself. Anyway, she proceeded to sit us at our table. Mind you there were only two other tables with 3 people in each and a larger group that exceeded no more than 9 people so to me it was not busy at all! Aside from that were maybe like 3/4 servers, 2 hostesses, a girl behind the bar and the man behind the sushi counter so technically I feel like that is plenty people to be able to give good service. Back to what I was saying, she sat us down and handed us our menus. Within 5 minutes my husband and I knew what we wanted but now it was a waiting game. We sat for another 5 minutes which was now 10 minutes that had passed since we sat down and not one server came to us with complementary water or to ask what we wanted to drink or if we needed any starters, which is fine sometimes they give people a little more time to read the menu, but again I was observing and the servers would walk past our table just looking at us, they did this a handful of times, even attended the tables besides us. We kept on waiting and waiting, about 20is minutes had past and I was starting to get upset because it was so obvious that nobody had came and offered us anything, not even water. Soon after a couple walks in, they get sat down across from us and IMMEDIATELY the waiter goes to their table with waters, asks what they would want to drink and if they want any starters. Now I am really frustrated but just kept waiting hoping that they’d come. Finally we were there for maybe 30 minutes, what really did it for me was that the couple that came after us got served so instantly, had got their drinks and some of their food within those ten minutes of being there and we still had NOTHING. Also Nothing against the couple, it was just the lack of costumer service? I guess. I told my husband let’s go, we got up and the two young women in the front laughed and said “have a good rest of your night” just wow! Don’t think I will ever go back here again, although I really wish we had got treated a lot better also because I really wanted to try their food. I know maybe I should not have waited so long to leave but sometimes there are misunderstandings and I feel that this was way more than that.
