I only gave it 5 stars because I can’t give more!
The problems we have are a mixture of the organisation of the place, and the general vibe. Rather than criticise too harshly, I will explain with suggestions;
1. The main draw is that it is a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, however they also let people order. However this means, as it starts to get busy, there are frequently times where one or both chefs are working on individual orders and the belt is ignored for a long time. Last time we were there, in 25 minutes, 2 rolls were added to the belt (aside from “starters”), which were all taken immediately. I understand in Japan ordering is also allowed, but they typically have a ton of chefs and are super efficient with this.
Maybe only allow ordering if the restaurant is not busy? Or if the belt is somewhat full? Or only one roll every x minutes? We had multiple people last time sit down and immediately order a ton of food with the belt empty, so we just left. I understand we can order too, but we didn’t come to a restaurant like this to order sushi, it defeats the intention.
2. The other problem can be the vibe sometimes. This is a semi-expensive and upmarket restaurant, but many times on Friday or Saturday night there are a lot of very young children (younger than 10) seated around the conveyor belt. Many times, noisy, touching all the boats, coughing on things, without their parents doing anything. Its very unappealing given the way food is served and the mood of the place. I am not saying children should be banned, but perhaps having an age limit at the counter (and families can sit together at the tables since from experience they order mostly for the kids anyway), or not allowing it after a certain time would work?
In summary, if the belt is being supplied and the restaurant has a “peaceful” vibe, its one of my favourite places to eat in Berlin. However its a coinflip what you will get, and after a few experiences now where I have left hungry, and/or frustrated, in a place where a bill for two with drinks will easily run €100+, I dont think I will go back and instead will choose to eat somewhere where my evenings enjoyment isn’t dependant on specific random factors.
But we tried wonderful sushi first for takeaway and next day inside.
Boats are great despite we took a table and made an order based on menu but not on a chef’s fantasy.
Really great. Fresh and tasty. Not so cozy looking, but if you wanna eat one of the greatest sushi in Berlin, no matter how it looks.
only one problem – prices are quite expensive for the amount and you have to wait while chiefs prepare sushi for you..
