We ordered the General Tso’s chicken, vegetable lo mein, vegetable spring rolls, and the trio vegetable dim sum, which included bamboo shoots, truffle mushroom, and mixed vegetable dumplings. We also had jasmine tea.
The food and service were excellent, and the space is cozy and welcoming. The vegetable spring rolls were extra crispy—so, so, so good. The lo mein truly stood out. I often compare lo mein to the one I grew up eating in Nairobi, and this is the first time I’ve had it that instantly took me back home, enjoying it at my favorite spot there.
Joe was our server and provided wonderful service. Overall, a really special dining experience.

DAO Dim Sum & Chinese Cuisine delivers exactly what you want when you are craving authentic dim sum in New York. It checks every box.
The dim sum was excellent. Fresh, well prepared, and full of flavor. Each dish came out hot and properly timed. You can tell the kitchen takes pride in consistency and quality.
The wonton soup was equally strong. Clean, balanced broth with well-made wontons and great texture. Comforting without being heavy.
Service was fast and courteous. The staff was attentive, efficient, and genuinely pleasant. Food arrived quickly without feeling rushed.
The pricing is very reasonable, especially given the quality and portion sizes. Strong value across the board.
If you are looking for reliable, well-executed dim sum in New York, DAO is a solid choice. Professional operation, good people, great food. Five stars.

Food is really good! I had the stir fry chicken with onions and scallions!! It came with rice and it was super yummy. My friend got the Kung Pao Chicken with Cashews and I personally preferred my dish more but they were both super good. The flavor of the chicken is nice and the portions are large which make the prices reasonable. The interior is honestly beautiful. Im an artist so I appreciate the wood paneling, lighting, and decoration. Super comfy place to escape the streets of NYC at and stay warm with a good meal!

I am Chinese. Born and raised in NYC, love trying new Asian places so I decided to try this place out. I love supporting the community. But the experience disappointed me.
Price: ~$9 per dish
What we had:
1) Shrimp Dumpling (Har Gow) 8/10
2) Crispy Shrimp Balls 8/10
3) Pan Fried Shrimp & Chive Dumplings 6/10
(The oil surrounding the dumplings was too thick and very greasy.) (flavor good.)
4) Bamboo Shoot w. Vegetable Dumplings 5/10
(Not bad not good)
5) Black Truffle w. Mushroom Dumpling 3/10
(Good presentation, but the flavor was unusual with the truffle overpowering everything and the filling was quite greasy.)
6) Scallop & Shrimp w. Pea Sprout Dumplings 8/10
7) Pork & Crab Meat Soup Dumplings 4/10 ($12)
(Do not get. Very thick wrapping unlike a soup dumpling and filling was subpar.)
First walk into the store: a little musky and a weird scent. Needs some fresh air in there.
Overall 6/10
To be fair we only had dim sum. But it is supposedly the highlight of their restaurant. I think the restaurant needs to change something in order to sustain. Service was good however.
TLDR: fresh air and food improvement.

We love coming back here, from the very first bite, everything we ordered was delicious. The shrimp and pork shumai were perfectly juicy and flavorful, and the shrimp crispy tofu had the best light crunch with amazing seasoning. The xiao long bao and hargow were both excellent, fresh, delicate, and full of flavor. But the true standout of the night was the beef chow fun—hands down the best dish on the table. Smoky, tender, and packed with flavor. Every bite was so, so good. We’ll definitely be back again!

Great food, good portion, a lot of variety and decent pricing. Everything was great in general. My favorites were the dumplings! Other dishes were okay but too much portion for me. Wish the staffs were a lil more attentive. Unless you have food coming your way, flagging someone down was a bit difficult.

This is a cute place and nice ambiance. The food is really good and so is the service. The crispy orange chicken dish was a bit hard but overall the food was really good. From the soup dumplings to the chicken lo mein.

We spent our Christmas dinner here. We ordered way too much food and that’s the way to do it. We tried just about everything on the menu and couldn’t be happier with our selections! With warm sake, the ambience is charming, quiet and relaxed. The food is outstanding. The service was perfect. A wonderful place for a holiday or a special occasion.

Great place in midtown! I wanted to go to Chinatown but my GF and me were by Penn Station. Chive & shrimp dumplings were great.
We ordered seafood lo mein, egg fried rice and Chinese greens Yu Chan and it came in very generous portions. It was a lil more expensive then Chinatown restaurants admittedly but it is in midtown and did taste fresher / better.
Service was excellent too!

We stopped by here and LOVED our experience. We had the chef platter, pork steamed buns, egg steamed buns, rose tea, and lychee sake (amazing). I tried to include a photo, but we already ate all the food. Staff was friendly, helpful, and the atmosphere was beautiful. Reasonable prices and we’d recommend!
