My first time visiting this restaurant and I’m so happy that we came here for lunch. Soon as we walked in we were greeted by Rae, our server, with a very pleasant manner. We ordered a Caesar salad, a cheesesteak and a pizza with half mushrooms. Everything was fresh and so very good. The cheesesteak was exceptional. It was served on a soft roll, very generous amount of steak and cheese. The Caesar salad was so light and refreshing and the pizza was perfect. The place is clean and I loved the pictures. Being from
South Philly, where there are plenty of Italian restaurants, I was so glad my husband decided on Cafe Carmela. Ann Marie took the time to explain the restaurant and her actually being from the Italian Market area. I so look forward to a return visit.

This place is an easy 5/5. First of all, its super cute inside without trying to hard to be fancy. We came in casual clothes and did not feel out of place, and would have felt just as comfortable dressed up for a date. Loved the decor and atmosphere! Ice water served in a carafe is an upscale touch.

The service was absolutely amazing. Our server Mary Pat is the pinnacle of service. Bright, warm, knowledgeable, quick, and professional. She was delightful!

The food was perfect. Id heard the cheesteaks here were top contenders for best in town and that was no exaggeration. I think who has “the best” steak is debatable, but nobody will come here disappointed. Nice hearty portion, delicious seeded roll, very cheesy. My wife at half, and i stuffed myself to finish it. It was an outstanding cheesesteak, the kind that will make you think about it later. Def recommend the copper sharp.

We also got an order of arancini that were delicious and perfectly cooked, pesto flavor was great and paired well with the side of marinara. As I was looking around, all of the food and appetizers looked excellent. We are excited to go back and try other things

We didnt have pizza, but from what I could see (and I am a bit of an expert), the pizzas looked delicious and artistan, with a little char giving them a neapolitan-style look. Standard pizza oven, not brick or wood though. Pizzas looked crispy and delicious and after having many disappointing pizzas in the area, im looking forward to try one when we Come back

Thanks for having us Cafe Carmela, we will see you again some time

Not only did they give me one of the best cheesesteaks that I’ve had during my time in Philly (and I’ve had 10 other places), but the service was also exceptional (special thanks to the red head waitress). Not to skip past the crab Mac N cheese which was also top notch. The cheese pull on the Magg pizza was one that all places should strive to achieve. The truffle fries with the cheese sauce was very tasty as well. All in all, this place serves delicious food at very fair prices. I can easily recommend them

Ordered takeout on a Thurs mid-afternoon. Inside was crowded with diners, which was a good sign. Cheeseteaks were great, full of meat and flavorful. The Italiano sandwich tasted good also, but tough to eat since the broccoli rabe wasn’t really cut and a full piece of rabe was pulled at every bite.

First time here, ordered to go… Arancini as an appetizer and an Italiano sub. They were excellent!!! Looking forward to going back. Mary took my order and was awesome. She said that I will have to come back and eat a Cheesesteak in the dining room, I will try that next time.

Outstanding cheesesteak!
Cafe Carmela serves one of the best cheesesteaks in Philly, hands down. The hard-seeded Corropolese roll is perfect—crusty on the outside, soft inside—and holds everything together beautifully. The ribeye is high-quality, well seasoned, and cooked just right, and the generous amount of Cooper Sharp cheese takes it over the top. Every bite is packed with flavor and balance. If you’re serious about cheesesteaks, this is a must-stop spot.

Café Carmela is one of those places that just gets it right. From the moment we walked in, it felt comfortable and welcoming, the kind of spot where you can relax and actually enjoy your meal without feeling rushed.

Everything we ordered was so good. The meatballs were amazing — tender, flavorful, and clearly homemade. And the sauce!!! Soooo good!! The eggplant parmigiano was comforting in the best way, perfectly cooked and full of flavor without being heavy. And the Don Cheech cheesesteak was honestly outstanding. Packed with flavor, cooked just right, and easily one of the best cheesesteaks we’ve had in a long time.

And of course, every place must have fries and they do. Crunchy, hot, and exactly what you want alongside a great sandwich.

What really stood out, though, was how kind and helpful the staff was. Everyone was friendly, patient and made great recommendations, and made the whole experience feel easy and relaxed.

The atmosphere is cozy and laid-back, making it a great place to enjoy a casual meal, or just sit and enjoy really good food. Nothing feels overdone or pretentious — it’s simply a place that serves great food and treats people well. Oh and we live the decor and interesting signs. Feels like a throw back to a different time.

Café Carmela is definitely a spot we’ll keep coming back to. It’s the kind of place you’re happy to have in your neighborhood and excited to recommend to others. Definitely worth it. Check them out!

It was a pleasant experience, you wait in line to order (was not bad), it was ready in 15 mins.

I ordered the Cheesestak, Cooper cheese with Onion.

It was delicious, really delicious. Better than any out there so far and I tried the most popular and non popular ones. Everything about it was just perfectly done from the bread, the seasoning, the amount of cheese and the wrapping.

The quality was great, you feel it and see it in their sandwich, survise was friendly and welcoming.

Would I come back? Yes, I will come back, and Highly recommend it.

Came here for an office lunch and everything was truly spectacular. I can’t wait to be back. I would definitely recommend the drunken rigatoni, cheesesteak and the Maggs! the Truffle fries were awesome too. Give them a try!

Unfortunately, the chicken cheesesteak was not an authentic Philly cheesesteak to me at all. The chicken was chunk-like, the onions were not diced into the meat, the meat had a weird rosemary taste, they didn’t cut the cheesesteak, and Philadelphians, here’s the biggest kicker, they don’t put the mayo and ketchup on the sandwich for you! Go to an authentic spot, and you’ll hear folks ask, “Can I get a cheesesteak, with mayo, ketchup, salt, pepper, and fried onions?”

Cafe Carmela may be a go-to for other items, but if you’re from Philly, or visiting Philly, stick to more authentic places for a cheesesteak. Larry’s, Max’s, Delassandro’s, Frank’s (in Darby), and even the papi store, if you know where to go, are some examples that would give you the authentic cheesesteak that represents Philly.

On the plus side, the dining area is cozy and inviting. The highlighted PIZZA sign on the wall is a nice touch, and the staff are incredibly kind.
