The special was a buffalo steak with a gratin potato and asparagus. The price point made me feel like flawless execution was expected, but the steak came out med well to well (asked for med rare), there were only 4 asparagus which seemed light, and the potato was about a cup serving. $45 ish seemed quite high for what we got.
The other dishes had a similar fate. A chicken fettuccine was on the salty side, not oily which was a plus, but the chicken protein was seasoned too lightly letting the char overpower the flavor.
Also we order the steak sandwich which I expected to be shaved or sliced filet, but it was literally a filet on bread. To their credit the filet was cooked perfectly, and the custom french fries were simply a star of the dish, but the overall package would of been fully elevated if the filet was sliced or shaved.
The last item was a cheesecake with raspberry and everyone enjoyed it immensely. Very rich and smooth, with my only complaint being the graham cracker crust. For a nearly $20 slice, I would expect a fresh made crust.
The staff were all exceptional and very friendly. The atmosphere was very relaxed with a reserved elegance that kept that small town charm.
Despite the wonderful staff, atmosphere, and location, the poor execution on the dishes left me feeling like everything was overpriced ($218 for everything and one drink, no tip) and underwhelming. I hope it was just an off day, but that was our experience.
Hubby brought us here for elk burgers, i ended up with a juicy and delicious chicken sandwich.
Highly recommend
