UPDATE: After posting this review, the manager reached out to me directly and was very kind and professional in addressing the issue. After some back-and-forth, he sent me a gift card right after Christmas since I wasn’t sure when I’d be able to make it back to this location. I really appreciated the gesture and the fact that they took the feedback seriously. While the oyster issue still happened during that visit, I do want to give credit for excellent follow-up and customer service. That definitely makes me more open to giving them another try in the future. Thank you!
-My first time at Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp. The place was packed, and most of the food was actually really good. I ordered the Cajun Girl Po’boy with potato salad, plus gumbo and a big salad — all flavorful and worth the price. Side note the po’boy did have a lot of cheese if you like that but personally I thought it was too much.
The grilled oysters, which they’re known for, were a big disappointment. They came slightly underdone, the cheese wasn’t fully melted, and there was cross-contamination even though I asked for only half with bacon. Some in my group don’t eat bacon, so that was a concern. They did give a small discount, but it didn’t really match the issue.
Great atmosphere and solid dishes overall, but I can’t recommend the oysters based on this visit.

OMGGG! This place blew me out of the water. Came in for my bday and had the best of times. Not only was the food buss down, but the service was amazing. We had Fred as our server , who recommended great drink options, showed us the crawfish size when asked (with live crawfish , it was a treat!), and made sure to make my birthday special by gifting me a balloon and a free dessert. If you come in, do yourself a favor and get the boudin balls. They were the best I have ever had. 10/10 all around for this local joint I had the privilege of stopping at.

Checked this place out due to high ratings and it did not disappoint. Food was good. We tried the blackened shrimp and crab bread bowl and it was delicious and Lauren was an amazing waitress. Always on top of refills and making sure we were taken care of. We definitely would go back.

We stayed in Port Bolivar for a week. I think this was probably our favorite place we ate the whole week. We had the fried green tomatoes, the seafood nachos, and the seafood enchiladas. They were all great! The portions were huge, too, so we ate twice from what we ordered. Go here!

We came to Tia Juantias for margs and apps and unfortunately we did not enjoy our visit.
Our server, Brian, was super nice and checked on us often. I asked for a to go prep cup of salt and pepper and he was happy to get that for us.
The food was what made our visit unpleasant.
We ordered 2 house margaritas, both mango, on on the rocks one half and half. They were not great, not strong at all and just tasted meh.
We got the chips and salsa and Im sorry, but $4 for a small ramiken of salsa is ridiculous. The salsa was ok, had a sweet after taste. The chips were good, we liked the season that was sprinkled on top.
We also got the small Mexican shrimp cocktail. When they said small they meant small. There were maybe 5 small shrimp in the cup. It tasted great (my wife thought it was too sweet), but again, $8 for 5 small shrimp and 1/4 an avocado is ridiculous.
We asked to try the jalapeño ranch and honestly that and the chips were the best tasting things we ordered.
The inside is cute and I had high hopes after reading many of the 5 star reviews. But spending $34 on 2 margs and 2 apps is wild. Especially given the size of the apps that were purchased.
There was also no happy hour which was a little surprising.

We were served by Lauren and from the very beginning she just made us love her service. She just knew what we needed and could be wanting. Food was 5*plus! I ordered Ahi Tuna and it was perfectly cooked with pink in the middle!!! Next time we are here, definitely coming back here and hoping to find Lauren as our server as well!!!

Omg this place is amazing. We visit Galveston a couple times a year from Wisconsin, and today we decided to take a ride over to Bolivar to try some new food. So glad we stumbled upon this one. As a native Texan living in Wisconsin, I don’t get a lot of good Texmex. I ordered the enchilada and tamale lunch plate. One bite into the cheese enchilada and I was instantly transported back to my childhood in Texas. The rice and charro beans are also amaaaazing. My hubby got the fried shrimp and fish. He said it’s easily in his top 5. We will be saving this on our list of favorites to frequent when we are visiting! Also love the atmosphere and friendly staff. MJ was great. 🙂

Outstanding. I took my family to Tia Juanitas today and it was excellent. I had the Trio Tacos and was impressed. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The atmosphere was colorful and entertaining, and the service was terrific. HIGHLY recommended. We look forward to going back.

My husband and I went and ate Tia Juanita’s Fish Camp in Port Bolivar TX on 9/28/25. The best Cajun Mexican food I ever had. Seafood enchiladas were the bomb, crawfish Queso was delicious, and husband had the blackened alligator tacos. Thank you to Mr Bret for being an excellent waiter……he stayed on top of the service. Again excellent food and service. First time here for us.
