Friendly staff, Good cider on tap!
Wednesday is all you can eat gumbo ( only $14!!)
I visited this restaurant in September and had a great experience delicious fish and chips, good Irish beer, and friendly service. Naturally, I was excited to return. However, this time, I encountered an issue that left me disappointed.
Despite being 30 years old and presenting my ID, driver’s license, and even a scanned copy of my passport on my phone, the staff refused to serve me a beer unless I showed my physical passport. My boyfriend, who is American, also showed his ID, yet this was not enough. It felt unnecessary and frustrating, especially given that I had no issues during my previous visit.
That being said, the restaurant itself remains a nice place with good food, and I would have loved to enjoy their beer again. if only I had been allowed to. Hopefully, they reconsider their strict ID policy in the future.
I love finding a casual, friendly place to grab a drink and a bite after a long day of work related travel. The local shops usually offer a lot about the people who actually live there and it’s always something to try. This place was no different.
I popped in on a Monday evening around 8pm and sat at the bar, thankful that Monday Night Football was the primary TV selection. Energy among the staff was fun, and it spread to the customers. While hanging out, I enjoyed a WA brew, a cup of the crab chowder, and some fish and chips BUT I subbed the “chips” for some of their signature spicy tots.
Overall, everything was good. Beer selection was awesome and I was pleased with my pick. The chowder was super good – I’d argue a bowl of that was enough! And the fish + tots was just great. Those spicy tots definitely pack a little heat, but they were tasty.
So this was a good stop & one I’d easily recommend.
★★ Only if desperate. Starving, lost, or snowing sideways.
★★★ Forgettable. Safe bar food, like warm socks from a bargain bin.
★★★★ Worth returning. Solid, dependable, no regrets.
★★★★★ The reason you go. Crave-worthy, intentional, makes you pause—how did they make that?
The Brown Lantern
The Brown Lantern is a very typical bar — good food, nothing that makes you say “I have to come back for more because I can’t get it anywhere else.” You can find the same burger or bar food at any local spot or across the country. That said, the burger I had was solid, and it’s a nice place to hang out, sip a beer, and catch up with friends. Comfortable, predictable, and dependable — sometimes that’s all you need.
