Some of the best sushi in Chico. It’s the twin sister restaurant to Big Tuna and features the same menu but it seems to always have more availability and open tables and the atmosphere allows for better conversation for groups. The food is always excellent. Never have had bad service here

This place was just ok. Visiting from the Bay Area and compared to sushi spots there this one was too pricey for the portions they gave. Rolls were on the thin side compared to other places. Ordered a shrimp katsu curry and it only had 3 peices of shrimp. Ordered a spicy scallop roll for $14 and the peices of scallop were tiny.
The atmosphere was nice and our server was friendly and attentive. The portions compared to price aren’t really worth it though.

The Good:

Areas for Improvement:

The sauces had a familiar, pre-made taste rather than the fresh, house-made flavors that elevate sushi dishes. A bit more depth in seasoning could make a big difference.
The front door is caked in grime, the shades and windows are grimy too. Not what I would expect from a meticulously minded Japanese operated business.

Izakaya Ichiban has the potential to be a fantastic sushi spot with a few refinements. The atmosphere and service are definite highlights, and with slight improvements to the rice and sauces, they could elevate their offerings significantly.

It was a great experience! The fish was fresh and tasty! The service was great and everyone were friendly! I sat at the bar and chef Zack was awesome! I highly recommend this place if you like sushi!

Lavender Clouds
Since we couldn’t eat inside due to the pandemic, the patio outside was very cute and well decorated. They also had water mists spraying during to the very hot days, it was nice. The food was very delish and I loved the cream melon soda. Their is a good enough portion of food in the bento box, very filling! I got the teriyaki salmon bento box, it was oh so delicious!
The sushi is very tasty also. When I come visit Cali again, I’ll definitely come back to this place.

Love this place! Whether you come in to dine, order takeout and sit at the bar while you wait, the food, drinks and service is top notch. Not only the best sushi places in town, one of the best restaurants in town. Never disappoints!

Went there for happy hour and had a crab sushi roll and a crab taco with sake! So good and so reasonable price for that time of day. Staff was so accommodating and friendly and kept coming back and checking on me. I will be back. And the food was so good.!!!

We placed our order which was 3 diff types of Nigiri, sunomomo. Baby octopus, and katsu curry.
I guess he didnt hear me right because he only brought out 1 type of nigiri not 3. But i didnt get charged either.
Sunomomo cucumber and octopus was good. Great flavor.
Katsu curry is ok. Its very basic but when i dont have time to make it myself it does the job.
New place, and I do appreciate them hiring college kids to help them.

The atmosphere/decorating was okay … and that’s about the only thing that was good.
Originally came to get eggplant tacos on a friends recommendation and mistakely got the eggplant taco sushi roll, which… Why name an item after another item that’s only at your restaurant? It was a sushi roll with eggplant (that was very disappointing), so they should have called it a Nasu (eggplant) roll.
We also ordered 2 other rolls and, much like the first, they were all very short, thin, and tasted very old/gamy.
Long story short, the ACTUAL eggplant tacos might be good, but the main dishes (the sushi) was awful. Raw fish that bad seems like an indicator of a deeper issue in food safety, so I just can’t risk coming back.
Also, it was SO expensive!! So why pay extra and risk food poisoning?
2/10, will not return.
