This morning I made my first visit to the Balloon Roof Baking Company. I had intended to purchase some plain croissants, but when I walked in and saw the selection of pastries…things got out of hand.
The viennoiserie – pastry made from laminated dough – is gorgeous, perfect, redolent of butter, and shatters into tiny shards when you bite into it. I was surprised, and delighted, to see that they render their cinnamon rolls in laminated dough, too – a creative idea that I had never seen deployed before.
The staff were kind, and took pains to package my purchase in a way that I could easily transport it home.
The pastries are not cheap (about $4 – $6 per piece for the ones I looked at and bought), but are definitely worth the prices charged. I picked up extra to share with neighbors, and I’m sure they’ll love their pastries, too.

I came here after seeing it recommended on a Korean thread, and today was my first visit. I showed up as soon as I woke up, expecting a long wait, and there were already quite a few people there.
I was a little disappointed that they didn’t have baguettes or pain au chocolat at the time, but that disappointment quickly disappeared once I tasted the bagels and sourdough bread—they were absolutely incredible. I usually bake bread at home, but this visit made me truly understand why people buy bread. The warmth and freshness were just amazing.
I’ll definitely be coming back—10,000%
As a Korean, I was especially sad that I couldn’t get the gochujang bread this time, so that’s at the top of my list for my next visit.
Everyone here was so friendly, especially the young woman at the cashier counter. Her cheerful smile genuinely made my day. Next time, I’m definitely getting the baguette, pain au chocolat, and the gochujang bread!

This place has the most, amazing bread I’ve ever tasted, consumed, ate, etc….
The Sourdough English Muffins…I can’t even explain how delicious these muffins taste and melt in your mouth, OMG!!!
Love the size, how fluffy and soft they are, but with a little crisp on the outside. Can’t believe I spend 12.00 for 4, but they’re that amazing.
The Carmalized Onion Gruyere and Parmesan Black Pepper loaf bread… BOTH DELISH
Herb Focaccia… DELISH
All sweets…. DELISH
I make a weekly trip to the Proctor market or Fife store over the weekend.

Absolutely OUTSTANDING bakery!! My husband and I arrived a little later (11:30) so most items were sold out. I purchased a couple of chocolate chip cookies (Incredible) and their highly recommended sourdough muffins. I mentioned to the gentleman helping me that we drove from North Seattle and that next time I would arrive earlier. He said hold on and went to the back and brought out an entire loaf of bread for me to take home. I thanked him for his generosity and went out to my car. A minute later he came back out with a bag full of bagels cream cheese and more cookies! I scarfed down the bagels and cream cheese, they were so good. I have yet to try the bread and English muffins but I have no doubt they will be spectacular.
Please try this place, you will not regret it!

Always delicious food, and everyone’s sweet! If you haven’t had canelés before, get a box. And the spiced brownie, and a savory focaccia, and definitely one of the cruffins… Basically, everything I’ve ever gotten here has been delicious.

This bread is not only good for the American tongue but also the international community as my (Korean) wife gave it two thumbs up. There wasn’t much of a selection by the time we got there (45 min) before closing, it was almost (98%) all gone due to the popularity and the quality ✨️
So thankful to our family friend who recommended that we try it, we will be back for sure!

I’ve been eyeing this cruffin at the farmers market, and I finally ordered the crème brûlée cruffin — oh my goodness! It was scrumptious and perfectly flaky.

Passing through Fife we stopped here for breakfast. We ordered a cinnamon roll, a babka, a squash focaccia, two chocolate chip cookies and a loaf of roasted onion Gruyère. The young lady working the counter did an excellent job advising us on our order and everything tasted amazing… we will definitely be coming back- only earlier so we don’t miss the most popular items. I think the cookie and the babka were probably our favorite items.

Found this company at the Tacoma downtown farmers market and could smell the fresh goodies many feet away! Grab a few ruby chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and a loaf of the garlic rosemary. The dessert never made it home and the entire loaf will be devoured with dinner tonight. Friendly staff, decently priced and have I mentioned the food has surpassed all my families tastebuds. Can’t wait to go again when the weather is a bit better.

Their baked goods are worth the trip! However everything sells out quickly, It is only open to public briefly a couple days a week– so it’s not a service oriented place, just counter service/takeout. They should have a coffee shop or 1 nearby– because i guarantee you will want to dive right away into your amazing baked goods!!
BEST bagels, cinnamon rolls, and tasty variety of artisan breads. Our family immediately went nuts sampling the things we brought home– and everything was a winner! Don– the baker/owner is worth following his creations!! I miss that he is no longer in Tacoma, but they are at most of the farmers markets! (check their
website).
