The food though, man oh man…we ordered the queso fondito (which was just Queso, not fondito in any way) and it came with our meal, so it wasn’t an appetizer at all. My meal came with a side salad, which was literally slimy everywhere, why would the kitchen staff even serve that in the first place?! My husband got the chicken fried steak and scrambled eggs with papa’s & beans, NO green chile cream gravy, brown gravy instead. His whole plate was cold, completely flavorless, and didn’t get the gravy right (he sent it back due to being that awful). I got the beef ribs with my slimy side salad, calabacitas, and Mac & cheese. The meat was amazingly tender and delicious, but the gravy had no flavor. The Mac & Cheese was one of the worst things I’ve put in my mouth; over cooked, squishy pasta with milk, no cheese, no seasonings, no flavor at all. The calabacitas were LOADED with bell peppers, which I’m allergic to & not listed on the menu. Samantha replaced it with the fire roasted corn, which was OK. The Queso fondito tasted like a can of nacho cheese, again, no flavor. The Jalapeño cheddar biscuits, same story, no flavor at all except boxed jiffy flavor. Unbelievably disappointing all the way around, except the service & the beer. Again, I’ll try one more time, but man it was just awful. The manager did comp my husband’s meal, as he didn’t eat it, and gave a free dessert at least, but we’ll see next time in like six months.
To owner: the wrap (tortilla) was soggy and the cranberry looked like the canned cranberry rather than fresh. Thus, the 4 star rating. I was a bit disappointed but everything else was great.
This place has a LARGE variety of food. Maybe different unique dishes. I did go during happy hour which I got 12 wings for $12. That’s the best thing I ordered. They were crispy and the buffalo was flavorful.
The braised short ribs were similar to pot roast. Not special which I was disappointed on. Not because it wasn’t tender but because I expected a different flavor, especially because it was supposed to have a red wine gravy. I also ordered calabicitas and this I was disappointed in because they had bell peppers and onion. I’ve never had it that way.
My girl got a patty melt and it was burnt. I told the waiter and he apologized but that’s about how far it went. Total was about $65 for two people.
This was strictly based on my own experience. Perhaps there are others that have a great one. Unfortunately I didn’t. I don’t think I would go back.
We ordered the brisket dish under “Sandwiches” because it said it was “served over jalepeno cornbread,” which would have made it easy for us to eat as little cornbread as we liked (we are low carbers). However, when the dish came out, it was a regular sandwich with bread! It would have been difficult to pry the bread off the middle, it was so messy.
We asked why the dish was completely different than what the menu described and why didn’t the waitress warn us? The staff suggested that we let Dave know, so here is the message.
Also, we ordered wings for the first time. They were grossly overcooked and dry-very, very disappointing. I expected much better quality at this place.
For those who don’t know, they charge you 3% more to use a credit card, so bring plenty of cash.
So Dave, please:
Update your menus to reflect more accurately what will be served
Train the cooks not to overcook the wings
I don’t want to give up on Dave’s because I’ve had many excellent meals here. Some improvements to maintain accuracy and consistent quality would be appreciated!♥️
