Had a great experience at Rathskeller. The atmosphere feels warm and authentic, with a classic German vibe that makes the place unique. The staff was friendly and attentive, answering questions clearly and helping with menu choices.

We ordered items without pork, and they were very accommodating about it. The Chicken Schnitzel was crispy and flavorful, and the sides were fresh and well-seasoned. Portions were generous, and everything came out hot and well-presented.

Overall, great food, good service, and a welcoming environment. Definitely worth visiting if you’re looking for authentic German-style cuisine.

First time here and we really enjoyed it. The appetizer pretzel was delicious! Sorry I forgot to take a picture, but I did remember for the rest. It is really loud in there, but the decor was pretty cool. I Ike that they have Coca-Cola as well as a rather large drink menu that included moctails which made my 20 year old happy.
The food was hot and flavorful. I had the turkey schnitzel special with sweet potato mash and pretzel stuffing. We alsonhad chicken schnitzel and saur bratten and falafel schnitzel and potato cakes as well as bratwurst. Dessert was a black forest cupcake, raspberry sorbet, Madagascar vanilla ice cream and an ice cream sandwich thing that had orange elderflower on a dark chocolate cookie. I wasn’t a fan of that ice cream, but the rest of the desserts were good. I’d definitely get that vanilla ice cream next time. Will definitely go back! We made reservations and we’re glad we did. Apparently, there is also searing upstairs as we were siting in the rathskeller!

It was our first time at this restaurant. The food is really good. We had the party platter and everything tasted amazing. I grew up eating German food and every bite took me back to my childhood. The staff is super nice and attentive. Definitely a must go place for those who enjoy German food.

I found this place by accident while spending a night near the BWI airport. Had the Balkan Schnitzel (pork) which was great! The spätzle were so-so, maybe I should have skipped the cheese on them. Nice cozy basement (“Keller”) and I guess during the warm season the outdoor patio will be popular. It was very loud inside the basement, though – not the easiest place to have a conversation.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ — Delicious German food at Rathskeller!

Recently, my wife and I attended the Baltimore Christmas Market, and afterwards we found ourselves craving German food. A quick Google search led us to The Rathskeller in Elkridge, just outside of Baltimore, and we decided to give it a try. As someone who has lived in Germany for a total of five years and absolutely loves German cuisine, I’m always excited (and cautiously optimistic) when I come across a German restaurant that looks promising.

The Rathskeller embraces the traditional concept of a Keller—a cellar-style tavern—and that atmosphere is immediately apparent when you arrive. The restaurant is located downstairs, giving it that cozy, old-world beer hall feel, while also offering additional seating upstairs when things get busy. The menu is clearly German-inspired, with schnitzels, sausages, pretzels, and other classic dishes, and the beer list is impressive, featuring a solid selection of German beers. I didn’t opt for any drinks this time since I was driving, so I can’t personally speak to the beer, but beer lovers would definitely feel at home here.

Let’s talk service—because this is where The Rathskeller really shines. When we entered the Keller, we were greeted right away with warm smiles and a friendly, welcoming attitude. Since it was busy, we were seated upstairs, and at first it almost felt like we might be forgotten because there was only one other couple up there. That concern quickly disappeared. Our waiter was extremely attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable. Our glasses were never empty, and he was always nearby to answer questions or check in. He was an absolute rockstar!

We even shared a lighthearted moment when I asked for a Dr Pepper and learned they don’t carry it. Our waiter joked that he’s been trying to convince them to add it because so many people ask for it. I had to agree—adding Dr Pepper to the soda menu would be a great move. Because of that, I opted for water instead, but again, the service itself was top-notch.

Whenever I visit a German restaurant, my baseline meal is always Jägerschnitzel with Spätzle and a side of fries. Fun fact: this was the very first meal I ever had when I moved to Germany, and it quickly became my favorite. I lived in both Hessen and Bavaria, so I’ve had my fair share of authentic versions. While I understand this restaurant is in America and not Germany—so a direct comparison wouldn’t be fair—I still judge it based on execution and respect for the dish.

Overall, The Rathskeller did a solid job. I opted for the chicken schnitzel, and it was cooked well—juicy, flavorful, and nicely breaded. The Jäger sauce and Spätzle were both okay. Not bad by any means, but they could use a bit more refinement and attention to really elevate them. That said, the dish as a whole was enjoyable, and I was genuinely impressed with the effort and overall quality.

In the end, this is a good place that we truly enjoyed. The atmosphere is inviting, the service is excellent, and the food delivers a satisfying German experience. If we’re ever in the area again and craving German food, The Rathskeller will absolutely be on our list to revisit. And hopefully next time… there will be Dr Pepper on the menu!

Wonderful cozy German restaurant with perfectly authentic food and beer. I enjoyed currywurst and German fries… tastes the same as in Germany! Loved this place! Highly recommend.

The Debreziner wurst was excellent, especially with the traditional German fries. I also tried small portions of the red cabbage and sauerkraut and personally preferred the sauerkraut. The curry ketchup was good, though I would have liked a bit more curry flavor, but that’s just my preference. Most people will likely be very satisfied with it.

Next time I plan to try the schnitzel. The staff were also great. You can tell they genuinely enjoy working there. They were friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and made the experience even better. Sehr gut!

I’m generally pretty ambivalent about German food. I grew up learning German so Bier gardens to me are really just for the beer usually, but I absolutely loved rathskeller. Food was really good. The beers were a little small for a traditional biergarten (but unless you’re trying to get drunk quick that’s kind of a good thing imo) but they were excellent and the Spätzle and cheese and potato pancakes were so good and the strudel at the end was really unforgettable. They had a decent wine, cider, or schnapps selection as well so my girlfriend wasn’t stuck to just drinking beer either. We were really surprised to find this in elkridge and it was a really good experience for the both of us

Good food, good service. Food came out fast, hot, and freshly made. Beer on tap was good – we got the Sly Fox Hefeweizen, Jager schnitzel, and Sauerbraten. Would go again. Sorry I forgot to get a photo before we started!

Really loved it. True to its name – it’s in the basement. Huge German and german-style beer selection, on draft and bottles. The potato pancakes were incredible. The pretzel awesome and buttery. Our schnitzel was good, sauerkraut and broccoli really nice; potato salad was a touch too sweet.
