There are bakeries and then there are experiences, and M Street Baking Company in downtown Howell falls pretty firmly into the second category. The storefront is black and seasonally decorated and somehow both easy to miss and impossible to ignore at the same time. People drive from all over for this place, and once you’re inside, it’s not hard to understand why. The milkshakes are the headline act and they earn it. The S’mores shake came out looking like a dessert fever dream, a chocolate-dipped rim, toasted marshmallows on a stick, a mini cupcake, a full graham cracker, and somewhere underneath all of that, actual milkshake. It is a lot. It is also very good. You probably won’t finish it. The Oreo shake follows the same logic, stacked and loaded and wildly photogenic, the kind of thing you feel obligated to take a picture of before you start dismantling it. But honestly, the baked goods are what stuck with me. The macarons are made fresh daily and they show it. Light, properly chewy, not too sweet. The cinnamon rolls on a weekend morning are the kind of thing people plan their Saturdays around. And if you find yourself drawn to the cannoli in the display case, just get it. You won’t regret the decision. The space is lively and a little loud and there’s usually a line, but it moves. The staff is generally upbeat and the whole place has this homemade energy that feels genuine rather than performed. It’s a small town bakery that figured something out and ran with it.

We tried the Classic Caramel Milkshake and the Black & Gold Milkshake, and I can’t say enough good things about them. Absolutely delicious and very filling! The Black & Gold is must-try if you love an overload of chocolate. This is easily one of the best places for milkshakes and desserts and you’ll definitely want to go back.

Seven years ago for my mother‘s 60th birthday we had the best cake ever so on her 67th birthday. I decided I would buy another one of the cases that we all had determined was the best cake we had ever had Little. Did we know in seven years the cake more than doubled in price from $65-$135 plus tax the quality of the cake was awful The people struggled to locate the cake upon arrival. It was extremely cold and even after leaving it out to get to room temperature, no improvement in the taste or quality was made. I reached out to the owner to see if there was anything they were willing to do based on a huge disappointment at quite an incredible cost. The response was pretty much this is what we do sorry I’ll tell my team and that is that. When I inquired about the increasing cost, the explanation was pretty much the plastic balloons on sticks, which you will be able to see in the pictures I post below I will never ever return again. Seven years ago, the cake was much more detailed less than half price at the rate of $65

We are so happy we chose M Street Bakery to create the dessert table for our wedding! Even though they don’t specialize in weddings, everything turned out absolutely perfect! The display was beautiful, the treats were fresh, and our guests could not stop raving about them.
The cake pops in particular were some of the best I’ve ever tasted. So moist, flavorful, and decorated beautifully. It was clear how much care went into every detail, and it made our day feel even more special. Our wedding cake was beautiful and SO moist and delicious. We loved it so much!

Who are we kidding, this place should be renamed to D Street Baking Company.. D for diabetes and I’m here for it. We’ve been meaning to stop in ever since they opened but for one reason or another didn’t make it until today. And on one hand, that’s a bummer, but looked at another way, my waistline thanks me. I brought our youngest with me and we each had our own milkshake — another mistake, because one can safely feed a small village and we should have just shared. The silver lining is we got to try two different flavors and both were out of this world. It’s a whole experience, not just a milkshake. It’s not a spot I can visit regularly or I’ll be buying a new wardrobe in much larger sizes, but it’s delicious and quite the sugary fiasco. I can’t wait to bring some of my sweet tooth foodie friends!

M Street Bakery is always the absolute best!! Several of my relatives and friends have done their dessert tables. We just had them for my bridal shower and will also have them catering our wedding. They are friendly and the desserts taste amazing. There is something for everyone to enjoy 🙂

We absolutely love M Street! They have done birthday and celebration cakes for us the past few years and always knock it out of the park from the decor to taste, it’s always amazing! We have sampled many bakery items too, their pizza rolls are incredible, the pitas are so good, the cookies and cupcakes are always delicious & I tell everyone that they have the most incredible rice crispy treats I’ve ever had! We’ve never had a bad item or experience here, a definite must stop in Howell!
