Came in on a Monday for a late work lunch. Ordered the BBQ pork sandwich and bbq baked beans. I am from GA and raised in the south, so always a little skeptical of BBQ in CA. The pork was tender and plentiful on the sandwich. It had a little sauce with it and I did add more of the original sweet sauce from the table. The bun was slightly toasted/warm and over all it was a good sandwich. The beans had nice chunks of meat in it, not sure if it was pork or brisket as they were small and covered in sauce from the beans. The sauce was a little on the sweet side but not over powering. Very solid beans which are a must have side dish for me at a BBQ location. Customer service was very good as well, overall a very good experience at this location and would come again.

My fiancé and I just left this spot and I really wanted to like it but we were served lukewarm ribs. Fiance took probably 2 or 3 bites until I brought it to his attention that it wasn’t hot or smokin’ lol. My Caesar Salad was good at least. We appreciate the service though, our server was friendly.

As a first time guest my experience at the Smoking Pig was pleasant. I had the nachos with brisket for starters. The rib and chicken combo was delicious and tender with french fries and a side of white rice. The burger with brisket with fries was just right.

Once walking into this vast restaurant I found that this restaurant has multitasking servers and cooks running the line of food & drinks. This is one of my most interesting experiences I had in a while… food & drinks are exceptional and balanced for a good traditional Happy Hour. I saw how this restaurant was struggling to keep motivated and supporting sanitation and keeping the place clean… note I’m a 35 year master chef and I saw how CLEAN it was!! Good food and drinks!!!

May 2025:
I visited at lunchtime for a work lunch. Small group of 5, we were seated immediately at a large round table.

Pepsi-based soda and unsweetened iced tea available. Plenty combo plates options.

I ordered a lean brisket combo with corn bread and fries. In hindsight, I probably should have chosen sometime less fried as they were quite oily. The brisket was offered to be either lean or fatty. The lean slices I received were quite tender and easy to bite, no butter knife needed.

We ordered a sampler plate for the table. The burnt ends were drenched in a sticky sweet sauce. Quite good, actually.

Food arrived fairly quickly as the place wasn’t that full. My table said that the chicken quarter was a little dry in some places. Brisket, pulled pork, and ribs are all very solidly flavored and well liked.

Good option for lunch for a group that doesn’t need vegetarian options.

Seating:
There were several booths nearby (for 4 or less people) as well as smaller tables. Lighting inside was somewhat dim in the middle of the room, likely brighter near windows.

Drink:
Soda refills took a little while to find someone, but the cups are large and didn’t need many refills. Water refills were quick.

Parking:
Free lot in the plaza shared with several other customers.

I had this delivered to me via Door Dash. So I cannot rate the atmosphere or Service, only the food.

As you can see from the Photo, I had a two-meat combo. Brisket and Pulled Pork. While I would rate my experience a solid 3.5 stars, the platform constraints mean I’ll round it up to 4 stars.

The brisket was a delightful surprise, tender and flavorful. It’s clear why this is a favorite among patrons. The pulled pork was tender and juicy and a smoky taste. It’s the kind of quality you’d expect from a place renowned for its authentic, Southern-style BBQ. Meaning, it’s close, but not the same.

After indulging in the smoky delights of BBQ at The Smoking Pig, I decided to treat myself to their banana pudding for dessert. It was a decision well made. The pudding was exceptionally creamy, with a rich banana flavor that wasn’t overpowering. The homemade quality was evident, with just the right amount of sweetness to complement the savory meal. It’s a classic Southern dessert done right. I’m happy to give it a well-deserved 4 stars.

In summary, The Smoking Pig BBQ did a good job for Freemont, CA offering BBQ with their brisket and pulled pork, making it a suggested-try for BBQ enthusiasts. Whether you’re dining in or ordering out, their commitment to quality shines through.

Fremont gets a lot of flack for having too many bland corporate chain restaurants and franchised fast food concepts, and not enough locally owned and operated spots, especially “nicer” full-service restaurants. I agree 100%. However, just because a spot is locally owned and operated, does not mean it’s automatically going to be better (i.e. better quality food, better beverages, better customer service, better ambiance).

I’ll leave it at that.

Nice vibe.

Very bad service, not many customers, but still got ignored most of time. Took about 5 mins to be seated, more than 10 mins to order, no water refill at all.

Some appetizers are delicious. However, BBQ and smoked meat were too dry, and I have to agree with another comment “my smoker works better”, actually much better.

It might be still ok to have some beer with some appetizers, but I do not recommend this place for a formal dinner.

This restaurant is under new ownership and in excited to see how this place looks in the near future. Their main attraction is the brisket which is always on point. Their burnt ends are also really good. It seems dead every time I’ve come here but that means really fast service. Hopefully with the new ownership they will be able to attract more customers because I don’t want to see this place go. It’s a really good BBQ place.
